HERO CENTRAL August 7-11 Vacation Bible School

January 20/Matthew 13

Verses 1-23 > The word of God is seed. God wants to sow this seed into our hearts to bring the changes to our lives that will yield fruit for Him. If we read with wanting to understand the Holy Spirit will give us understanding > verse 12.

The key to living the Christian life is to hear the word, by (reading, studying, memorizing, meditating, discussing it with others) and continually obeying the word regardless of the outcome or what is happening around you. Fruit will begin to be produced in your life.
What is fruit? Scripture specifies six types.
      • Romans 1:13 identifies soul-winning as a fruit.
• Romans 6:22 says holiness is a fruit.
• Romans 15:28 calls financial giving a fruit.
• Galatians 5:22, 23 lists the fruit of the Spirit as love, which results in joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self control.
• Colossians 1:10 labels good works a fruit.
• Hebrews 13:15 names praise as a fruit.
Do you see signs of these fruit in your life? Live out the word and you will. Be patient fruit takes time to grow. Relax and let the alive word of God work within you.
Verses 24-43 > Not only does God sow the word into our hearts but he then sows us into the world around us so that we can be a witness for him. He works the word into us and we work it out in living for Him!
Hey Hilltop our daily bible reading is our opportunity for God to sow the word into our hearts! Welcome it with and open heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you bear the fruit of what you are reading and see what happens in your own life and in the lives of those around you. Maybe people will even say, “What has gotten into you, you seem different?”
Verses 44-46 > We are the treasure and the pearl of great price. Jesus gave all he had for us! WOW!
Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

The last part of the chapter reminds us of the old saying familiarity breeds contempt. The people of Nazareth were amazed by what Jesus said and did but discounted him as just the carpenters son. If they saw but did not perceive and heard but did not listen and therefore did not understand.
