HERO CENTRAL August 7-11 Vacation Bible School

2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) — 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

That little word ‘All’ is huge when it is used in this sentence. It means that all of the bible is inspired or God breathed. Not just some of it or what I decide is inspired, all of it is inspired. If I decide what is inspired I become the judge of the bible instead of it becoming the judge of me. That would greatly reduce its effect in my life and it would reduce God to being subject to me instead of me being subject to Him.

Look at the condition of our world today all because humans have chosen to judge the bible instead of letting the bible judge them. We judged it to be of no use by not teaching it in our schools. We have said that we are wiser than God and look at how our children are turning out.

One of our elders at Hilltop, Mike Butler, told me the other day that his kids have made friends with many of the kids in the neighborhood and when his kids talk about stories in the bible like Noah and the Ark, the kids from the neighborhood have no idea who they are talking about! They had never heard of Noah, Daniel or Jonah.

Jesus said:

Matthew 4:4 (NIV) —  ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

It is obvious in our world that we have chosen to live on bread alone. We have judged the bible and decided we don’t need it. But before I come down too hard on others I must look at how I view the bible. Do I believe all of scripture is true or do I pick and choose what I want to believe? Do I let it correct me when I am wrong? When it teaches me what is right do I do what is right? If I don’t let it correct me in all areas of my life and if I choose to do only what is easy for me to do when it comes to doing right; have I not also judged the bible?

Thank the Lord for his grace, mercy and longsuffering. Holy Spirit fill us and help us to live on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Be Inspired Hilltop!

The thing I love about scripture is that no matter how many times I read it it always has something new to teach me. My favorite book is Romans and I have read it hundreds of times (I’m old!!) but every time I read it something new pops out at me. The Word really is living.

I believe you will be around to read it a 100 more times! I mean why not. The Father must be absolutely thrilled that he found someone who loves his word. Keep reading and He will keep popping!
