John 14:6 (NLT) — 6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

The reason we have this verse in the bible is because Thomas asked this question >

John 14:4–5 (NLT) — 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Have you ever been in a classroom situation where the instructor was lecturing and you had a question because you really didn’t understand what he was saying; however you were too afraid to raise your hand and ask the question because you didn’t want to appear stupid? And then another student raised her hand and asked the same question you were going to ask? Weren’t you glad they asked the question?

Aren’t you glad that Thomas asked this question? Instead of calling him ‘Doubting Thomas’ like many people do we should call him ‘Hero Thomas’. Because of his question we all know without any doubt that truth is a person and in that person, Jesus Christ, is abundant life. We also know that Jesus is the only one who can lead us to eternal life. We know all of this because Thomas wasn’t afraid to raise his hand and at the risk of appearing stupid he asked the question. Perhaps Thomas will have a better standing in your heart now:)

If you have questions feel free to ask Jesus; he still answers.

  1. When I’ve been afraid to ask a question and then someone else does, I always admire them for their confidence hoping next time I won’t be so fearful. I’ve heard Doubting Thomas so long that it’s really good to look at him honestly. What he was doing is what I would have been too afraid to do. As far as his disbelief that Jesus rose from the dead in John 20, I would have been right beside Thomas touching Jesus wounds! He was looking with his hands and not just his eyes…just the way some people learn best:)
