John 14:1 (NLT) — 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

Jesus probably could have said, “You trust in man who can fail so why wouldn’t you trust me who has never failed you.”

I said that because we put our trust in human beings a lot throughout our day. We sleep well at night because we are trusting our military and our police to keep our nation and our city safe from enemies. We go to a doctor trusting that he or she will give us a right diagnosis. We give our bodies to a surgeon trusting that he or she will repair what is wrong. We sit on chairs trusting that they will not collapse. We buy food trusting that it contains what is written on the label. We get in our vehicles trusting that they will get us to where we want to go. We trust that those driving will stay on their side of the rode. We order something online and trust that what we ordered will be delivered. When we buy clothes we trust that the size is what the label says it is or maybe we don’t so we try on the clothes:)

We walk into a building trusting that the roof won’t collapse on us. We get into an elevator trusting that it will go up or down without the cables snapping. We get medicine from the pharmacy and trust that it will do what it is designed to do. We drive across a bridge and trust that it will hold. We do our taxes and trust that we will get the refund that is promised. In fact some people are so trusting in this area that they spend the money before they get it! We put on sunscreen and trust that it has the right formula to protect us from getting burned. We go to see a movie trusting that the time printed in the paper is true. We put our money in the bank trusting that it will be there when we need it. We buy a house trusting that our house inspector did an accurate assessment. We sit in a chair at a beauty salon trust our hair to the beautician. We go on rides at the fair trusting that they will not break down. We buy a ticket to a concert trusting that it will get us in. We make a reservation at motel trusting that we will have a room when we get their. We get on an airplane trusting that the pilot whom we do not know and have never met will get us safely to our destination.

Every day we trust in man who can fail; why would we not daily trust Jesus who cannot fail?

  1. Been pondering the things I’ve trusted in all morning since I read your message. (sigh) It comes so natural to “just trust” in sameness as we do things over and over again not expecting change or failure. My devo today was Psalm 34:8-Taste and see that the Lord is good: Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in HIM! (NLT) The NKJV says that blessed is the man who trusts in HIM! Having joy, a place of refuge and his blessing totally out weighs what trusting man could ever offer us…without failure of course. Thanks again teacher!
