February 25/Mark 11

Verses 1-11 > Ok so here is what caught my eye in this chapter.  Jerusalem is hopping with people because of the Passover Celebration. The city is swarming with three times the number of people and according to historian Josephus, 10 time the number of soldiers so they could keep the place from rioting. Picture a ‘ticker tape parade’ after Yankees win the World Series! Jesus is willing to get on a colt that had never been ridden and attempt to ride it through this crowd.  Amazingly the colt yielded to Jesus and let him sit on its back. It apparently didn’t bolt or buck or bray; it just ambled down the street like some old sway back horse who had been pulling a milk cart for 20 years. The Prince of Peace or Calm was sitting on its back. Do have any unruly areas in your life? Things you are ashamed of? You know like unbridled anger, hissy fits, bad habits and attitudes that need to be broken. Ugly thoughts that fly around in your head uncontrolled; sarcasm that just bolts from your mouth unchecked?

Have you ever called on Jesus to come and take a seat on that area? You have? Well call again. Tell him you want him to do with you what he did with that young colt > ride with you through life. Every time the issue comes up stop and yield to Jesus. Picture him sitting on that area. Day by day yield to Jesus; invite him into that area until it isn’t a bother anymore. Jesus is just as much alive and on the scene today as he was in Jerusalem years ago. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you with his presence. Ask the Father to come also and take up residence within you. They would love to do it and you will be broken of the those areas!

John 14:23–27 (NLT) — 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. 25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. 26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

The other thing that caught my eye was that Jesus needed the colt. Jesus also needed a boat to speak from, bread and fish to feed people, a tomb to be buried in. That tells me that God wants to partner with us to get his will done on this earth! Listen to what Pastor Jon Courson says about partnering with Jesus:

“This is incredible to me. God didn’t have to go that route. But He’s chosen to place Himself in a position where He will not do what He desires to do in our families, communities, workplaces, marriages, or schools without our partnering with Him. Why? He’s getting us ready for the next billion years when we will be ruling and reigning with Him.”
“Why should I bother to pray or to study the Word, to worship or to fellowship with other believers?” you might ask. “It doesn’t really matter.” Oh, but it does. Somehow in God’s economy, His blessing and moving in this world are dependent upon our participation. I wonder if one of the mind-blowing moments in heaven might not be when we see what could have happened in the lives of our relatives, friends, and communities had we taken seriously the possibility of partnering with God instead of acting as if the Lord didn’t need us.”
I couldn’t agree more. Hey Hilltop lets all ask the Lord to help us not miss partnering opportunities with Him.
The people praised Jesus when it looked like he was going to take over the city and throw the Romans out. When that didn’t happen their “Praise God” turned into “Crucify Him”. When Jesus doesn’t seem to have answered your prayers or come through for you like you expected do you still praise him or is your mouth strangely silent? Come on Hilltop lets keep our praise at a high volume
Verses 12-14 > If Jesus came your way looking for fruit what would he find? Do remember my sermon a couple of weeks ago on the Bible is seed? I talked about different types of fruit > fruit of salvation, righteousness, love, financial giving, praise, souls save, etc. Lets give our Lord the fruit he deserves. The soil that this fruit grows in is a Tender Heart. There is nothing wrong with the seed it just needs the right soil to grow.
Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

This chapter has Jesus cleaning out the temple. The court of gentiles was turned from a place of worship into a marketplace. The law did allow people to buy their sacrifice if it was too far to bring it but God never planned his temple to be where the selling occurred and also human nature suggests that the worshipers were gouged on what they had to pay. Since we are now God’s temple it is therefore important that we keep an attitude of worship instead of greed.

  2. Nicole Hamilton says:

What I felt God speak to me in this chapter was that if we have any “bad trees” in our life that aren’t producing good fruit, we can declare to that area of our lives, “may no one ever eat your fruit again!” And if we stand in faith with a forgiving heart, the power of God will cause that bad tree to wither from the roots up, completely destroying it. This will free up that area of your life to grow the “good trees” that bear the “good fruit” that God desires.
