April 13/ John 5

Verses 1-15 > I like this story because no matter what I may be going through Jesus knows where I am and I can count on him to help me. Out of all the crowds of people Jesus went to this guy. He knew where he was and he knew how long he had been crippled. He knew he had no chance of being healed because he had no one to put him into the pool. It seems like the Lord does his best work in hopeless situations. How is your situation right now? It is when we have lost all dependence on others and all dependence on ourselves that we are in a position to have Jesus work on our behalf. As the guy at the pool found out this is wonderful position to be in. Read that last sentence again.

Verse 6 > When you can’t God can. When you can’t God can. When you can’t God can.

Verse 8 > This guy now has a choice he can believe Jesus and obey or not. We have the same choice today. As we are reading through the New Testament this year we will have chances to believe and obey. Do you believe that Jesus can handle the situation you are in right now? What words have you read in the bible that would cause you to believe this? Sometimes obedience is just believing. Listen to what Jesus said > John 14:1–2 (NLT) — 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

Here is a verse that encompasses all of life. Jesus just said that we shouldn’t let circumstances in life trouble us. We were just to trust him with our lives. He said concerning the future that he was going to prepare a place for us in heaven. Ok so our future is secure. But not only is he preparing a place for us he is also preparing us for the place! Things we face in this life are just to prepare us for heaven. All of heaven trusts Jesus. We are being prepared for heaven by trusting him now! All of heaven worships Jesus we are being prepared for heaven by worshiping him now. All of heaven is grateful for Jesus. We are being prepared for heaven by being grateful now.

That guy heard the words of Jesus. He believed the words of Jesus. He got up, was no longer crippled, and walked off with renewed vision and vitality. If you will hear the words of Jesus, in other words keep reading your bible. If you believe those words and obey those words instead of being crippled by your circumstances you will walk through them with renewed vision and vitality!

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (The Message) — 16 So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. 17 These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. 18 There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

Be Inspired Hilltop!

Verse 46 > P.S. Here is what Moses wrote about Jesus. Read the last sentence a couple of times.

Deuteronomy 18:15 (NLT) — 15 Moses continued, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him.

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

We do not know what happens to the man healed by the pool but he was on shaky ground when he went to the priests to tell them who had healed him. I do not think the priests were good at hiding their feelings about Jesus. We do know that Jesus was about the Father’s business because He states that he only does what the Father does. We say WWJD but Jesus lived by WWGD!
