April 22/John 12

Verse 2 > I guess four days in the grave didn’t spoil Lazarus’ appetite:)

Verses 3-8 > I believe when we worship God it has a pleasing fragrance to him. Judas tried to put a false guilt trip on Mary. Money is more important to Judas than Jesus. Jesus puts Judas in his place. For more information on false guilt and how to handle it listen to my message from last Sunday(April 17) on How to identify and deal with false guilt. It is a life freeing message.

Verse 11 > Jealousy is a killer!

Verses 14-15 > Notice how Jesus was always obeying the scriptures. I want to be like Jesus.

Verse 16 > When you read scripture and don’t understand it right away just keep at it and the Lord will eventually give you the understanding you need.

Verses 17-18 > This is what witnessing is all about. Just tell people what Jesus has done in your life or for someone else that you know of. People need to hear about our experiences. Pass on the good news just like you would pass on a good recipe or a tip on changing oil in your car.

Verse 19 > Don’t you wish this was true?

Verses 23-24 > Jesus is saying if you really want to see me to really know me I need to go to the cross and die because like a kernel of wheat it remains by itself until it is buried and dies and then it produces at stalk of kernels. I must die and rise again and I will produce a harvest of new lives. Those new lives are you and me Hilltop!

Verses 25-26 > We in a sense die to our old way of living when we come to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. It not always an easy way but it is the way of God. We work on our marriages instead of taking he easy way out. We parent and train our children in the ways of the Lord. We work with integrity and honesty whether the boss is around or not. We do not gossip or slander people. We forgive others and ourselves. We don’t lie, or cheat or steal. We make our money honestly. We pursue righteousness. We develop a relationship with Jesus through reading the scriptures and living in obedience to them. We work on having fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We fight the good fight of faith because at times it is very hard. Our spiritual death has produced a new life! We witness for Jesus and we harvest new souls won to Jesus all because He died for us and we died to our old lifestyle.

Verses 27-28 > Jesus came to die and he stuck with the plan. His love for us overwhelmed the desire to give up!

Verse 37 > Miracles don’t produce faith. Stay in the scriptures that is where faith is produced.

Romans 10:17 (NLT) — 17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

Verse 40 > They didn’t want to believe so God gave them what they wanted.

Verse 42 > They believed but it wasn’t saving faith. They believed Jesus was sent from God, they believed he was a good man, they believed he could perform miracles but they were unwilling to forsake everything and follow him. They loved the old way too much. They counted the cost of following Jesus and felt the price was too high. Do you know anybody like that?

Luke 12:8–9 (NLT) — 8 “I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels. 9 But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God’s angels.

Romans 10:9–10 (NLT) — 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Verse 50 > You can’t go wrong trusting Jesus and being obedient to his words > the scriptures. They will lead you to eternal life!

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

Even after all Jesus had done people’s opinions on Jesus were split. Some believed but we’re afraid to show it while others still did not believe. Jesus stated that this was when he would enter his glory, a paradoxical expression for dying on a cross, despite being around at the start of everything. He asks if the path could be changed but will follow God’s will as noted in the prophets. Your future is related to what you make of Jesus and whether you care more for your earthly life or your spiritual life.
