April 6/Luke 24

Verse 1 > These gals were on a mission. They were going to find the body of Jesus.  They had prepared and they were going for it. Very early before anything else could come up to interrupt their plan they went to seek Jesus. We can learn a lesson from ladies: Seek Jesus early in the day, early in life, early in every situation and you will never be late for what he has planned for you and you will eliminate a lot of pain, sorrow and shame!

Story > After a grandfather lost his treasured watch during a family gathering, he called his grandchildren together and told them he’d pay twenty-five dollars to the one who found it. This sent the kids on a mad scramble—running and screaming and turning over every rock. But the youngest grandson just sat and watched his brothers, sisters, and cousins all come back empty-handed. The next morning at breakfast he handed his grandfather the watch.
“How did you find it?” asked the puzzled old man.
“I just got up real early and listened for the ticking,” replied his clever grandson.

Psalm 63:1 (NKJV) — 1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.

Verse 2 > The stone wasn’t rolled away to let Jesus out. It was rolled away to let us in so that we could see that Jesus had taken the sting out of death. We don’t have to be afraid of dying because Jesus will bring us through to the other side.

In Rudyard Kiplings the Jungle Book, Mowgli the man cub is asking the animals what is the most feared thing in the jungle. He was told when two animals meet on a narrow road one will stand aside to let the other pass. The one who passes is the most feared. Mowgli asked what animal that would be? Some said an elephant and others said a lion. But a wise old owl said, “no the most feared thing in the jungle is death, it steps aside for no one.”
They say death never takes a holiday but it did step aside for Jesus and one day Jesus will put death on a permanent holiday! Jesus is our deliverer. Because Jesus was raised from the dead to life we will be too!

Verse 3 > They didn’t find what they were looking for. They were looking for Life(Jesus). They were looking in the wrong places. They sincerely expected to find wha they were looking for. They had invested time, effort and money in this pursuit.

Most of our society is and unsatisfied society. They look for love but don’t find it. They look for fulfillment and don’t find it. They look for purpose and don’t find it. They look for contentment and don’t find it. They look for security and don’t find it. they look for happiness and don’t find it. They look for freedom and don’t find it. They look for peace and don’t find it. They look to win because winning isn’t everything it is the only thing to them. If they are going to have any value, meaning or significance in life they have to win.
Like the women at the tomb they were looking in the wrong place. The angels asked them why they were looking for the living among the dead. Jesus is pure life. Unless your friends are attached to Jesus there will be no lasting life in those friendships. Unless your job is given over to Jesus and you are working for Him you will not find satisfaction and fulfillment in that job. Unless your money is viewed as God’s money there will be no lasting pleasure in spending it.
Unless you have a relationship with Jesus life will be much less than what you want it to be.

Verses 6-9 > The next time the walls of life are closing in on you and it seems like living for Jesus is a losing proposition or a dead end street remember his words and rush to tell them to yourself:John 16:33 (NLT) — 33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Romans 8:28 (NLT) — 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Verse 11 > To the men it sounded rediculous, foolish, pure nonsense, silly, babblings that come from a fevered insane mind. And it is the same today when we try to tell people that they can only experience real life when they yield their lives to the giver of life > Jesus Christ; but tell them anyway because their lives depend on it.

Verses 13-32 > Keep seeking Jesus in pray, in bible reading, in meditating on the scriptures, in worshiping and obeying him and he will eventually reveal himself to you. This is walking with him in the every day. Some times God stretches our faith a little bit so that it can grow. You want your faith to grow right? Half hearted seekers give up; you are not one of those are you? Hilltoppers are tenacious we never give up!

Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) — 6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

Luke 18:1 (NLT) — 1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.

1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT) — 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

2 Corinthians 4:1 (NLT) — 1 Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.

Galatians 6:9 (NLT) — 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

In our 4th grade Sunday School class every so often our teacher would have a play a scripture look up game. She would call out a bible reference and we would look it up and as soon as we found it we were to read it out loud. The one found the most first would get a prize at the end of the class. Some of us would find the verse at about the same time and start to read and no matter how many were reading I would always keep reading till I finished the verse. I was usually the only one left reading at time. At the end of the class the teacher said, “Some of you got to the verse before Daniel but you quit reading before you got to the end of the verse but he never quit. He may not have been the first one but he gets the prize because he finished the verse!

Verse 45 > Every time we approach our bible we wan to pray this verse. Holy Spirit open my mind to understand the scriptures.

This chapter has one message: God is not dead. Kathy and I went to God is Not Dead 2 on Tuesday. It is a very good movie that asks one question, see the movie to learn the question, and shows the importance of persistence. The women in this chapter showed persistence of faith when they believed the angels immediately. The men were slower to regain their faith. The movie is a real eye opener that is made more clear as the end credits roll. You want to watch through the whole end credits. After you see the movie make sure you can answer the question for yourself.
