May 17/Acts 8

Chapter 8> Here is a real live situation where we see God working out all things for good. Stephen was killed > bad. The church was being persecuted > bad. Christians were being dragged from their homes and put in jail > bad. Saul was in favor of the killing and the imprisonments > bad. Many of the Christians left Jerusalem and started telling other people about Jesus > good. We are going to read about a revival and miracles and evil spirits being cast out in Samaria > good. People are getting baptized in water and with the Holy Spirit > good. An angel tells Philip to tell the good news of Jesus to an Ethiopian eunuch and the eunuch gets born again > good. And in chapter 9 the bad guy Saul gets born again > good.

The point is if you stick with Jesus and keep obeying him and don’t give up on him and tell others about him, no matter what the circumstances he will work all things out for good!

Romans 8:28 (NLT) — 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

As Simon learns the gift of the Holy Spirit comes from faith and therefore cannot be bought or earned. He wanted to buy the power of the Holy Spirit without having faith in where the authority and power of the spirit comes from. Also since he wanted to buy the power he was planning to try and sell the baptism as opposed to the simple faith of the Ethiopian eunuch who said there is water why can’t I be baptized. It is all about faith and attitude.
