May 5/John 21

Verses 1-2 > How many disciples went fishing? I asked to remind you to stop and think and ask the Holy Spirit to give you insight as you read. Sometimes we read too fast and miss some things. So how many were their?

Verse 4 > Jesus always knows where we are at and at just the right time he will show up!

Matthew 10:19 (NLT) — 19 When you are arrested, don’t worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time.
Romans 5:6 (NLT) — 6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
Galatians 6:9 (NLT) — 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
1 Peter 5:6 (NLT) — 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.

Verse 6 > Who needs a fish finder when you have Jesus! Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to someone who needs to hear the good news about Jesus. They might be closer than you think. Remember Jesus said the we would be catching people.

Matthew 4:19 (NLT) — 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

Verse 9 > I’ll bet those were the best fish and chips they ever ate! God never does anything half way. We always get the best with Jesus.

1 Peter 1:18–19 (NLT) — 18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

Verse 10 > The only things that we will be able to take to heaven are the people that we have led to the Lord. Everything else stays behind. Hmm… I wonder what should be important to us in this life?

Verse 12 > Jesus always has the welcoming mat out. Come unto me!

Verse 13 > Jesus the ultimate servant. He is still serving us today. His serving in heaven by being  a reminder to the Father that we are forgiven because of what Jesus went through for us. I believe that is what it means that Jesus is interceding for us. He stands between us and Father to show that we are accepted. We can come boldly to the Father because Jesus shed his blood for us on the cross and by his rising from the dead.

Hebrews 7:25 (NLT) — 25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
Verses 18-19> Jesus doesn’t sugar coat what the future might look like if we truly love him an obey him. “Peter your love for me is going to be the death of you. Your love for me is going to get you into trouble.” Jesus gave Peter a chance to back out but this time Peter stood firm. Doesn’t your life look to good right now? Stand firm God has a plan; walk through it with him.

Psalm 34:19 (NLT) — 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

Isaiah 43:1–3 (NLT) — 1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. 3 For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

Hebrews 10:36 (NLT) — 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

Verse 22 >  It doesn’t matter what others are doing, we are to follow Jesus. We are not to compare ourselves to others we are to just follow Jesus using the gifts, talents, and abilities that he has given us. We are only responible for our behavior not someone else’s.

Verse 23 > Let Jesus do what he wants in your life. He knows best!

    Peter denied Jesus three times and therefore he is asked three times if he loves Jesus while he is comissioned for service. Peter now has matured and is ready for service. The number of disciples fishing was seven, the number of completion.
