June 30/Romans 12

Verses 1-2 > Paul says because of all God has given you, namely Jesus Christ, do this one thing for God > give him your body. How we handle day to day life is our worship of God. Christians worship everyday not just on Sunday. The world around us may think that worship only consists of an hour and a half on Sunday but O how wrong they are. You might have even thought that but let God and this chapter change your way of thinking. How you get out of bed in the morning is you worship given to God. How you dress, work at your job, treat the family and neighbors, how you tip the waitress, how you handle traffic jams, what you listen to, what you think of others, what you do when offended etc; God looks at all of this as worship to Him. How are you doing with your worship?

As you worship Paul says that you will learn God’s will for your life which by the way will be good, pleasing, and perfect for you and God! Do you want to know God’s will in a certain situation; check to see what kind of worship you are offering Him. If it is good worship keep doing it and he will direct you. If it is not so good worship change and then he will direct you. Why should God reveal his will to you if you are not already doing what you know to do? You can discover God’s will for worship by reading this chapter.

Verses 3-21 > Here are many practical suggestions on how to improve your worship. Ask the Holy Spirit to point out what he wants you to improve in as you worship the Lord. He is a much better teach than I am. What really jumps out at you in this chapter? Will you give your body to God in worship? Is God worth your best worship? When you hear the word ‘Worship’ your mind may think about something other than singing, praising, and Sunday morning. If so God is changing you for better times of worship!

John 4:23–24 (NLT) — 23 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. 24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

spirit = the immaterial part of me that can communicate with God. The breath he has breathed into me.

Truth = sincerely with quality. Not half-heartedly, not mediocre, but the best I can give because I want to.

When spirit and truth work together there is some sweet worship going on! As I read Romans chapter 12 God’s word touches my spirit and the truth of his word comes out in the worship that God is pleased with. It was like this last Sunday at Hilltop the Holy Spirit breathed on the band and they just flowed together in worship that was not planned and O was that ever sweet! Let the Holy Spirit move you to worship after you read this Chapter.

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mark Gundersen says

What God has planed for you is what God has put in you. Each part of the body has its part to play and you have giftings that direct you to your part (s). Most people have a main gifting and then minor giftings and some areas that are not a gifting. The more you use your gifting the more focused and natural it will be. We are also given a warning in the chapter not to be a know it all. This is especially important if your gifting leans towards leadership, teaching or prophecy. There are things you do not know and your way may not always be best. This keeps us humble. Our task is to do our best and let the experiences direct us in God’s good plan for our lives.
