July 27/1Corinthians 15

Verses 1-4 > everyday we need to be reminded of the gospel > Jesus Christ died for our sins. Jesus Christ rose from the dead which proved that the scriptures can be believed and that he is God and that he can actually forgive sins. Belief in Jesus is the only way to get saved. Nobody earns salvation. At times it is easy to feel good about ourselves because we have been faithful in church attendance, bible reading, prayer and witnessing. But the only thing to feel good about is Jesus and what he has done for us. We don’t have any more right standing with God because of what we do. At the moment of our belief in Jesus we got all the right standing we will ever need. Anything done in obedience to our Lord after salvation is hopefully done out of gratitude for what he has done for us.

Verses 5-9 > there were many eye witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus. Yes this many witnesses would stand up in a court of law! The great escape artist Harry Houdini said that he would rise from the dead on the fifth anniversary of his death. So many of his faithful fans gathered at his grave site on that day and they waited and waited and waited till finally they all went home disappointed. Jesus didn’t and doesn’t disappoint. Harry couldn’t escape from death and the grave but Jesus did.

Verses 10-20 > because Jesus was raised from the dead so will we be raised from the dead because we placed our faith in Jesus. If the tomb would have held Jesus we would be idiots for placing our faith in him. I mean how dumb would you have to be to place your faith in a dead guy! It would be like betting your life on me being able to throw a baseball 100mph. Ain’t gonna happen, you lose!

Verses 21-22 > In this life you either belong to Adam or Jesus. If you belong to Adam, in other words you haven’t believed in Jesus, you’re dead. If you belong to Jesus, in other words you believe in him, you live. Pretty simple right? That is because the gospel is really simple even I can understand it!

Verse 23 > The farmers in our area are out gathering in the harvest of small grain. They are harvesting what they planted this spring. They are gathering the grain and putting it in grain bins. Because Jesus was planted in death and rose again we who believe in him are his harvest. One day we will all be gathered by him and put in that big grain bin in the sky > heaven!

Verse 29 > Paul is saying that if Jesus is still dead why be baptized, it would be pointless!

Verses 30-34 > Why risk our lives for Jesus if he is dead. Why be insulted for being his follower if he is dead? Why live righteously if it isn’t going to matter anyway? Why not get all you can out of life living any way you want to and then die? We don’t because Jesus is ALIVE!

Verses 35-50 > just like an ugly flower bulb is planted and grows into a beautiful flower so these ugly old worn out bodies of ours are going to come out of the grave brand new, totally different then what was planted and we will have a glow about us all our own just like the sun, moon and stars have a glow all their own. We are going to be something! Superman eat your heart out!

Verses 51-57 > for us who have believed in Jesus when he comes back to get us there will be no more ugly, no more sin, no more pain, no more sorrow, no more death and no more darkness!

Verse 58 > We have so much to look forward to so keep serving the Lord with a smile:) Even if what you do doesn’t seem to make a difference just keep living for Jesus and leave the results up to him. Nothing done for the Lord is ever useless ever!

Matthew 25:33–40 (NLT) — 33 He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ 37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

That Jesus is alive is the cornerstone of our faith. If he is not alive then the Holy Spirit also has not come to give us power and a direct connection with the Father. It is vitally important to recognize the difference between the Catholic crucifix and the Protestant cross. Jesus is no longer on the cross and you need no other priest than Jesus when talking to the Father. The church took a u turn between the early church and the Protestant reformation with a return to legalism. Be glad we walk in the truth of faith.
