September 27/1 Timothy 2

Verse 1 > As we have seen lately in the previous blogs Paul has put much emphasis on prayer. He now stresses to young Timothy, who is the pastor of the Church in Ephesus, that his priority as a pastor and the priority of the church is to pray! They are to pray for everyone friend or foe. No one is to be excluded. Prayer is the greatest resource of the Church because in prayer we go the One who has all the resources! Prayer is a great way to make our presence in this world count. Prayer is one way we partner with God to change our world. Through prayer we accompany Chris and Rondi in Oman, Javier and Erin, and Eric and Debbie in Guatemala. Through prayer we help relief organizations all around the world. Through prayer we go on evangelistic crusades in all countries. Through prayer we ask for God’s will to be done in our lives and in the lives of those around us and in our Hilltop family. Through prayer we can hold the sick up before the Lord. Through prayer we overcome temptation. Through prayer we hear the voice of God. Through prayer we touch the heart of God. What a wonderful thing is prayer!

Matthew 7:7–8 (NLT) — 7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

James 1:4 (NLT) — 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Luke 22:40 (NLT) — 40 There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.”

Verse 2 > We are to pray that our leaders rule well. That they rule favorably towards the Church. Pray for the salvation on those who decide the laws in our country. Pray that they truly will be servants to us people. Pray that even though they may never get saved that God will influence their influence in this world we live in.

Verse 3 > Do you really want to please God; then pray!

Verse 4 > God wants everyone to believe in Jesus. Pray to that end.

Verse 5 > We must pray that people will receive Jesus because he is the only one that can restore their broken relationship with God.

Verse 6 > Pray that people will hear our message. Pray that the Holy Spirit will bring conviction to the unsaved. Pray that when they are convicted they will repent of their sins and receive Jesus.

Verse 7 > Pray that the Lord will bring someone into your life that you can teach about the faith in and the truth of Jesus.

Verse 8 > Pray that us men will channel our energy into prayer.

Verse 9 > Ladies pray that you will spend time being attractive to God by praying!

Verses 10-14 > Ladies pray that us men will humble ourselves before God and take our rightful place as spiritual leaders in our homes. Pray that we will act like men and pray. Pray that we will act like men and study the scriptures so that we can teach you and the kids what we have learned. Pray that we will take sermon notes so that we all can study them later. Pray that we will model the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Then you will feel protected  and you won’t have to take the lead because of the laziness or indifference of us guys!

Verse 15 > Yes in verse 14 the woman in a sense became pregnant with deception and she conceived sin. Ah but through child bearing Jesus was born so now all women who place their faith in him will be saved!

  1. Mark Gundersen says

Paul’s comments on women in this chapter show a cultural bias. At that time the formal education regarding the word was provided to men only and the woman learned by listening in at the synogog. This does not mean that God was not imparting knowledge to women because Paul addressed some of his letters to women and to the home churches that they led and women were prophetess and judges.
