November 18/2Peter 3

Verses 1-2 > Peter is saying that you are going to hear a lot of voices telling how to live this life to the fullest. Keep the antenna of your mind on alert for the Word of God. Tune out anything that does not line up with God’s word. Only God’s word can be trusted to proclaim the truth.

John 1:14 (NKJV) — 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 17:17 (NKJV) — 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Ephesians 1:13 (NKJV) — 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Verses 3-4 > People are going to say that you can’t trust Jesus because he said he was coming back but nothing has changed. People are born, people die, and people are buried but Christ hasn’t shown his face. So you see the bible is just a bunch of myths.

Verses 5-7 > Peter reminds us that everything we see today in creation came about by God’s word. Never forget that. If God said it, it will happen and he said that he was coming back! God’s word is poised on the tip of his tongue and ready to bring destruction to the skeptics just like a bow hunter is poised waiting to release his arrow to bring down the deer.

Verses 8-9 > God doesn’t count time like we do. To Him it is like only two days have passed since Christ walked the earth. He is delaying because he is waiting for more people to receive his son Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Oh what a wonderful, patient loving heavenly Father we have!

Verse 10 > most people are ready for a thief with their locks on the doors, alarm systems on their houses and cars and handguns by their beds; but are they ready for the abrupt coming of the Lord?

Verses 11-14 > tomorrow all we see might be gone. Now do you see why we should be concentrating on living the holy life we were called to live instead of worrying about paying for the kids college education or having enough to retire on? Only one thing really matter in this life and that is > are you ready for when Jesus comes back? What is more important than that? No it is not the Vikings winning the Super Bowl! Although that does sound like it signal the end of the world doesn’t it:)

Verses 15-16 > because we have so much to look forward to lets make the effort to bring people to Jesus. We can’t make them receive Jesus but we can at least tell them our Jesus story in hopes that the Holy Spirit will use it to draw them to receive Jesus.

Verses 17-18 > So be on guard so that you don’t loose your footing and slip and fall for the lies that this world will try to tell you. The knowledge of Jesus will give you good traction on the road to life.

Psalm 73:2–19 (NLT) — 2 But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone. 3 For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness. 4 They seem to live such painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong. 5 They don’t have troubles like other people; they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else. 6 They wear pride like a jeweled necklace and clothe themselves with cruelty. 7 These fat cats have everything their hearts could ever wish for! 8 They scoff and speak only evil; in their pride they seek to crush others. 9 They boast against the very heavens, and their words strut throughout the earth. 10 And so the people are dismayed and confused, drinking in all their words. 11 “What does God know?” they ask. “Does the Most High even know what’s happening?” 12 Look at these wicked people— enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply. 13 Did I keep my heart pure for nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason? 14 I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain. 15 If I had really spoken this way to others, I would have been a traitor to your people. 16 So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is! 17 Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. 18 Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction. 19 In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by terrors.

If nothing had changed from the day of creation then man would not have fallen and Jesus’s sacrifice would not be needed. But since things did change we need to trust God’s promises
