December 14/Revelation 10

Verse 1 > Darkness had its God controlled day in Chapter 9 but light shines again. If you hang in there long enough with Jesus the dark days will give way to light.

Psalm 30:5 (NLT) — 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.

This mighty angel has a lot of the characteristics of Jesus. This should be encouraging to us. It tells us that we become like who we hang out with. Hang out with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Let the word find a place in your heart and you will become like the one who is the living word.

Acts 4:13 (NLT) — 13 The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

Verses 2-3 > with one foot on the land and one foot on the sea the angel is saying, “No matter what happens Heaven still Rules!” And with that God shouted and ‘Amen’!

Job 19:25 (NLT) — 25 “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.

Verse 4 > God is giving his ‘amen’ to what the angel said. Seven thunders is the complete voice of God.

Psalm 29:3 (NLT) — 3 The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea. The God of glory thunders. The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.
Job 37:5 (NLT) — 5 God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power.
God doesn’t tell us everything. He wants our complete trust. We Christians walk by faith not by sight. Not knowing keeps me walking by faith and not relying on my own resources. Not knowing keeps me useful for God. Had Stephen known he was going to be stoned to death he might not have been so bold to proclaim the gospel. Had I known what was all involved with pastoring I might not have agreed to do it. Had you known you were going to lose all of your friends when you became a Christian you may have reconsidered  and these years that God has used you to serve him may not have happened. With God we are on a need to know basis. What we can trust is that God will tell us what we need to know.
Deuteronomy 29:29 (NLT) — 29 “The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.

Verses 5-6 > God is waiting and waiting for more people to repent of their sins and turn to him; however one day the wait will be over.

2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) — 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Verse 7 > one day all of our questions will be answered. Stay steady. Stay faithful. Endure.

Verses 9-10 > feed your spirit a steady diet of the word of God. Jesus said we don’t just need physical food we also need spiritual food to sustain our souls > see Matthew 4:4. There certainly is a sweetness to the word of God when we read that nothing can separate us from God; that the blood of Jesus washes away our sins, that our record is clean, that all things work together for good, that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, that greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world, that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

But there is also a bitterness. When we swallow the word, in other words when we really understand it we realize that people who don’t yield their lives to Jesus are going to spend an eternity in hell. That bitter taste should spur us on out of our comfort zones to tell people about Jesus. This is what Revelation reveals to us.

Verse 11 > Here is what happens when you have devoured the word and assimilated it into your spirit; you share it with others.

Jeremiah 20:9 (NLT) — 9 But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

Just last week, in the dark of night,  they had to dig up part of Union Avenue because of a sewer problem. To keep people from driving their cars into the deep hole in the road they put up reflective barriers with blinking lights to warn people of danger. Perhaps we are those blinking lights and that reflective barrier that warn people of the danger of proceeding down the road in this life to the next without Jesus.

Daniel was also given a similar scroll to eat that gave him knowledge of end times. It had the same characteristics of being sweet in the mouth and sour in the stomach.
