December 30/Revelation 22

Wow a year has already gone by since we started reading through the New Testament. Here we are on the last chapter. Thank you for hanging in there and being faithful to the Word. I hope that you have a renewed enthusiasm and love for God’s word. I pray that the word has grown the character of Jesus in you. The blog has been fun and stretching for me at the same time. I hope that it helped you a bit to understand a little more of God’s Word. I think I am going to take the first two weeks of January off from blogging. I believe I will have my sling removed by then and so typing will be a bit easier. I am thinking about using the blog to help us memorize scripture. I will post one verse a week that we are to memorize and perhaps I will have a short comment on the verse each day. So at the end of the year we will have memorized 50 verses. I will also post some benefits of memorizing scripture. This is just a thought but if it resonates with your heart perhaps you could let me know. A lot of interest just might spur me on to do it:) Ok so now lets get into Chapter 22.

I  believe the word “Keep” describes what we are to be doing as we read this chapter.

Verses 1-6 > Keep your enthusiasm up for the Lord by looking forward to this better life that is ahead for us believers in Jesus. Let the future bring joy to the present.

Verse 7 > Keep reminding yourself that Jesus could come back at any moment.

Verses 8-9 > Keep worshiping the Lord.

Verses 10-11 > Keep living righteously. Those that aren’t will not be able to change once Jesus comes back. That is why this verse says that those who do harm should continue to do harm because it will be too late to change.

Verses 12-13 > Keep reminding yourself of the reward for living for Jesus > the crown of life.

James 1:12 (NLT) — 12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Verses 14-15 > Keep yourself clean by reminding yourself of the future of those who don’t.

Mark 7:22–23 (NLT) — 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. 23 All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

Verse 16 > Keep reminding yourself that Jesus is coming back for you. The ‘morning star’ announces that arrival of dawn which means that Jesus will arrive soon.

Verses 17-19 > Keep believing the bible for what it is The Word of God. Keep feeding your spirit on this word and don’t try to change the word to fit your lifestyle. Let the Word fit you for its lifestyle.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NLT) — 13 Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received his message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very word of God—which, of course, it is. And this word continues to work in you who believe.

Verse 20 > Keep believing that Jesus is coming soon.

Verse 21 > Keep yourself holy as you rely on the grace of God.

1 John 3:2–3 (NLT) — 2 Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 3 And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  2. Nicole Hamilton says

I also really enjoyed this blog, especially now that I can’t be at Hilltop nearly as often. I hope you do continue to use the blog in the coming year because I have found it to be a great encouragement and a huge help in keeping me self disciplined to stay in the Bible. I’ve been wanting to focus more on memorizing scripture for awhile now, so I think the Bible verse memorization idea is fantastic! Whatever you decide, I plan on joining it 😊. Thank you so much for your dedication and sacrifice to do this, and for your inspiring love for the word of God!

  3. Mark Gundersen says

This chapter has a command, a promise and an invitation. We commanded to not seal up this revelation. Others may not harken to it and change their ways but we must spread it. We are promised that Jesus is coming soon. Everyone is given the invitation to come. Our job is to wash our robes in the blood of the lamb and enter the city. I will be looking forward to further blogs.
