Our Memory Verse for the week:

Romans 10:10 (NLT) — 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

When I am aiming my pistol at target the front sight and the rear sight must line up in order for me to hit the target. If I hold my pistol so that the front sight is higher than the rear sight my bullet will go over the target. If I hold my pistol so that my front sight is lower than the rear sight my bullet will go under the target. They must be lined up on the target in order for me to hit it.

If you are truly saved your heart and your mouth will line up; they will both say the same thing then in a sense you have hit the salvation target. Some people can talk a good salvation but their actions don’t line up with their words. They may talk about placing their faith in Christ but then when trouble hits them the way they react indicates that they didn’t really trust Christ at all.

Mark 4:16–17 (NLT) — 16 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 17 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word.

Their lives didn’t match up with their mouths.

Then there are those whose lives would indicate that they are Christians by the way try to keep the commandments and do good things in this life but they won’t come out and openly declare that Jesus is the Lord of their lives. This could be due to them being cowards or that they are trying to earn their way into heaven.

Paul is saying the true salvation happens when the whole person is lined up on Jesus. James put it this way:

James 2:14–17 (NLT) — 14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? 17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

If we are going to confess Jesus with our mouths lets also confess him with our lives our whole being lined up on Jesus.
