2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) — 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Yesterday we compared the most popular 3:16 verse > John 3:16 with our memory verse. This inspired me to look up all the 3:16 verses in the New Testament to see what they would teach us. You might say that curiosity got the best of me. You know the old saying, “Curiosity killed the cat”; well in the case of scripture I pray that curiosity will kill my selfishness:) Ok lets see what the 3:16’s have to say to us.

Matthew 3:16 (NLT) — 16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.

I want to be a ‘landing strip’ for the Holy Spirit.

Mark 3:16 (NLT) — 16 These are the twelve he chose: Simon (whom he named Peter),

God, in his grace chooses us to represent him. I wonder how I am doing?

Luke 3:16 (NLT) — 16 John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Yes the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for today because Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever!

Acts 3:16 (NLT) — 16 “Through faith in the name of Jesus, this man was healed—and you know how crippled he was before. Faith in Jesus’ name has healed him before your very eyes.

Healing comes when our faith is placed in Jesus.

Romans 3:16 (NLT) — 16 Destruction and misery always follow them.

Practicing sin does definitely has a down side.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

Wow God lives in us! He is for us and not against us. He is a constant companion. Say good bye to loneliness and aimlessness.

2 Corinthians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

If you want to see clearly in this life yield your life to Jesus and obey the scriptures.

Galatians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the Scripture doesn’t say “to his children,” as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says “to his child”—and that, of course, means Christ.

The promises of blessing given to Abraham are also ours because of Christ.

Ephesians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.

We can pray for the empowering of the Holy Spirit.

Philippians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

Stay true to Jesus and don’t slip back into your old life of selfishness.

Colossians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

The scriptures will give us something to say, something to sing about, and something to be grateful for.

1 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) — 16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

The gospel in a nutshell.

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NLT) — 16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.

Jesus is the world’s peace. Most of the world just doesn’t know it yet.

Hebrews 3:16 (NLT) — 16 And who was it who rebelled against God, even though they heard his voice? Wasn’t it the people Moses led out of Egypt?

We don’t want to be like them. Obey the Lord and live.

James 3:16 (NLT) — 16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.

Attitude check time.

1 Peter 3:16 (NLT) — 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

Here is a good teaching > keep your conscience clear.

2 Peter 3:16 (NLT) — 16 speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.

Don’t try to fit the scriptures to you; let the scriptures fit you to them.

1 John 3:16 (NLT) — 16 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Who could you or I give up our lives for this week? Will we allow ourselves to be interrupted?

Revelation 3:16 (NLT) — 16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

Luke warm love just doesn’t taste good to the Lord.

Well there you have it > the 3:16’s are inspired by God and chock full of teaching, correcting and encouragement. They would make a good in depth bible study, in case you we looking for something to challenge you.

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mary Anne Frank says:

Verse 17 completes this verse…”so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
I want to be complete….equipped for every good work that God has for me.
Thank you, Dan, for all of the “3:16s”!

  2. Yes, thank you for sharing your curiosity with 3:16s. Without killing off selfishness, being complete and equipped cannot take their rightful place within us. Thanks Mary Anne.
