Deuteronomy 6:7 (NLT) — 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

Why did God command us to take the time to infuse the scriptures into your children? I believe Paul answers this question in the letter that he wrote to Timothy.

2 Timothy 3:14–17 (NLT) — 14 But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

If our children are going to remain faithful to the truths that we have been taught then they must be taught. Faithfulness doesn’t just automatically happen. If they are going to believe that the scriptures are true they must be taught by someone they trust, YOU! The only way they will know that they are sinners and need to be saved from that sin is if they are taught. The only way that they will know that salvation from sin comes by trusting in Jesus is if they are taught.

For them to know what is wrong in their live they must be taught the scriptures. For them to know how to correct the wrong they must be taught. For them to know the right things to do they must be taught. For them to be prepared for good godly works they must be taught.

What a wonderful privilege indeed it is to be able to teach our children the scriptures and thereby save their souls and set them on a course in life that honors the Lord. This is our way of “Saving the Planet”:) We are ‘God’s Green People’.
