1 John 5:14 (NLT) — 14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.

According to this verse God will give us anything that we ask for that pleases Him. So how do we find out what pleases the Lord? Look at this verse in Ephesians:

Ephesians 5:10 (NLT) — 10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.

God gave us the bible which lets us know what is on his heart. We must carefully read it to determine what pleases Him. We don’t have to guess he has had it written down for us. When I went to the grocery store my mother gave me a list of what she wanted me to get. I didn’t have to guess if she wanted hamburger or pork chops the list told me to get two pounds of hamburger. I didn’t have to guess if I was to get whole milk or 2% milk the list told me to get whole milk. When I came home with what was on the list my mother was very pleased. That usually meant that I would get and extra chocolate chip cookie.

When we pray we could start with a list that God made. We call the list the Ten Commandments.

Exodus 20:3 (NLT) — 3 “You must not have any other god but me.

Father help me to not let anything take the place of you in my heart. Help me to love you unconditionally with no “ifs” “ands” “buts” or “when’s”.

Exodus 20:4 (NLT) — 4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea.

Father the only image I want in my life is to portray the image and character of Jesus. For this I need your help.

Exodus 20:7 (NLT) — 7 “You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

Father help me to not to do things that would bring shame to your name or discredit you in any way. Help me not abuse your grace by doing questionable things.

Exodus 20:8 (NLT) — 8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

Father help me to not let anything consume my time so that I have nothing left for you. And help me to want to fellowship with other believers so that I might bless them and they might encourage me. Help me to take a break, chill out and relax so that I might be refreshed and energized to live the life you have called me too.

Exodus 20:12 (NLT) — 12 “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Father help me to keep harmony and unity in my family relationships. May I always do right by my parents. Help me to honor my parents the way Jesus honored you.

Exodus 20:13 (NLT) — 13 “You must not murder.

Father help me to bring life into every situation. Don’t let my attitude kill the moment. Help me to remember that we humans were made in your image. Help me not to dwell on damaging thoughts. And help my words to bring life and not death. Help me to extend the same grace and mercy that you extended to me.

Exodus 20:14 (NLT) — 14 “You must not commit adultery.

Father keep from even lusting after another woman. Help me always to be faithful to you in thought, word, and deed. Help me to be a man who always keeps his word.  Help to be someone that you and others can trust.

Exodus 20:15 (NLT) — 15 “You must not steal.

Father help me to be honest in all my dealings. Help me to tithe so that I am not stealing from you. Help me to give eight hours work for eight hours pay. Help me not to withhold doing good when I have it in my power to do it. Help me to work so I don’t have to live off the government. Help me to not cheat on my taxes.

Exodus 20:16 (NLT) — 16 “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.

Father keep me from gossip and slander. May I always speak well of others. If don’t have anything good to say about someone help me to keep my mouth shut. Help my words to always be kind, helpful and encouraging.

Exodus 20:17 (NLT) — 17 “You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.”

Father help me to be content and thankful with what you have provided for me. Help me to remember that if I need it you will provide it. Keep my eyes from wandering and my mind from fantasizing and daydreaming.

I believe that Father would be pleased with these prayers and he may even throw in a chocolate chip cookie:)
