John 14:2 (NLT) — 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?

We live in a culture where there are many choices when it comes to things. If I want a flat screen television the choices are mind boggling. The same is true when it comes to cars, clothes, careers, cabins by a lake, bicycles, motorcycles, books and pickles etc! So many choices can be stressful because we want to make a good choice. We want to get the best bang for the buck because we work hard for our money.

Have you ever wanted something like a zero turn lawn mower and then you went on line to search for the best in your price range? After looking at all that you could afford, comparing the specs, watching the demo videos and reading the reviews of others; you still came away confused? You were know better off than when you first started. In fact your brain was kind of fried. Please someone make a decision for me!

The same kind of thing can happen when you look to buy a home. You have sort of an idea of what you want and where you want to live and what kind of neighborhood you want for your children to grow up in. So you find a realtor and you tell her your ideas and then she begins to show you houses. And she show you more houses. There are things you like from each house and each neighborhood but no house and no neighborhood is perfect. And after a few months or years of looking you scream out, “Please someone make a decision for me!”

If you have ever gone through those above scenarios or you have your own, “Please someone make a decision for me” scenario, our memory verse for this week is extremely good news for all of us.

Jesus is our great decision maker. Because he was the one who formed us in our mother’s womb he knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows exactly what we need and what will satisfy us immensely. He is preparing that place right now for us in heaven. We will not have to make anymore of those mind stressing, gut wrenching decisions. We will be able to relax and enjoy all that Jesus has provided for us for an eternity!

Isn’t this great news on a Friday? To celebrate why not go to Dairy Queen and get a ….hmm:)

  1. Funny…hmm is right!!! Mind boggling is the word for choices out there. Even when I think there could only be a very small selection of what I’m after, chances are good I’m wrong. (example last week was a garden hose…oh boy!) After all of our moving in and moving out of homes in the last several years, I am so very relieved my eternal home will be turn-key ready! Thank you Jesus for making all the necessary choices and preparations for me! You rock!

  2. Mary Anne Frank says:

In the KJ translation the word rooms is translated mansions. I grew up thinking that Jesus is building a mansion for me. The Greek word is ‘mone’ meaning abode or dwelling place. I love that in the NLT it is translated rooms. Today I have been thinking about what it will be like to have a room in my Father’s house. It gives me a very different picture than having a mansion. Mansion seems very lonely to me. A room in my Father’s house seems warm and secure with access at anytime to my Father. Will my room be next door to my loved ones? Or maybe I’ll be on the same floor as Mother now Saint Teresa, my hero in the faith. Maybe Cleo and I will be roommates….
I love thinking about this. We have such a good Father!!! We get to have a room prepared just for us in His house. Wow!
