Isaiah 53:5 (NLT) — 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.

When I read this verse this morning I thought about loyalty. I know people that are loyal to a certain brand. Ford people don’t buy Chevy and vice versa. Harley people don’t buy Hondas. I personally favor Triumph motorcycles. I favor Stihl in chainsaws. Coke people buy Coke products and wouldn’t buy Pepsi even if there were no Coke available. Some ladies only use Mary Kay and others are loyal to Maybelline. There are people in Fergus Falls who are loyal to Premier Meats and wouldn’t buy meat at any other place. Do you have any Brand Loyalties?

Here is a definition of Brand Loyalty: Brand loyalty is defined as positive feelings towards a brand and dedication to purchase the same product or service repeatedly now and in the future from the same brand, regardless of a competitor’s actions or changes in the environment. It can also be demonstrated with other behaviors such as positive word of mouth advocacy.

One of the marks of Christian spiritual growth according to Peter is brotherly love which is another way of saying loyalty. As they say “blood is thicker than water.” This means that the bonds of family are stronger than the bonds of unrelated people.

Our memory verse gives us a view of the loyalty of Jesus when it come to us, his brothers and sisters. Christians are related because of the blood of Jesus. Jesus remained loyal to us in order to save us and make us his brothers and sisters. He remained loyal even though he was pierced, crushed, beaten and whipped! His competitors actions didn’t change Jesus’ loyalty to us. I don’t know about you but if my choice was “Buy a Honda or you will be pierced, crushed, beaten and whipped”  because of my competitors actions you would probably see a Honda in my garage. My loyalty to Triumph would be over.

Do we have the same loyal brotherly love for each other as Jesus had for us? People today are not drawn to the Church because they do not see this Brand Loyalty. Our actions toward each other from time to time do not give our Brand > the Church a good name. When we church hop, or gossip about one of our brothers and sisters, or hold a grudge towards another believer, or get caught up in divorce, adultery, fornication etc. It is like saying, “That brand is terrible.”

The reason that Harley Davidson has such a great following is that people do not diss Harley! They always talk well about their Harley’s. They act like it is the only motorcycle that is worth owning. They wear the Harley jackets, caps, tee shirts, boots and anything else that has the Harley name on it. They have Harley clubs and organize many group rides. They do charity work for many good causes. They proudly display the Harley Logo on their SUV’s and pickup trucks. They even have Harley flags on their front lawns. In other words They Are Loyal!

Could we get as excited about the Church and begin to show some brotherly love? Could we talk it up? Could we go out of our way to care for one another? Why not find someone at Hilltop that you don’t know very well or someone who has just started attending and take them out for lunch or do something special for them. Give them a reason to brag on the Church. Give them a reason to be loyal by being Jesus to them. As they grow they will begin to do the same thing.

Regardless of our competitors actions let us remain loyal to the Church our brothers and sisters in Jesus.

Be Inspired Hilltop!
