John 14:27 (NLT) — 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Today in America is Independence Day. We celebrate our freedom from the rule of Great Britain. We were at war and we won and finally we had peace. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. No longer would we be taxed by the King of England. No longer would his soldiers be able to demand that we house and feed them. No longer would be under any obligation to England. Once we were under their rule but now no more.

Jesus fought for our Independence from Satan. This is what our life was like when we were under Satan’s rule.

Ephesians 2:1–6 (NLT) — 1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.

There was no peace in our lives because we were following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. Where there is no freedom there is no peace. Just like we are under no obligation to England we also, because of Jesus are under no obligation to our sinful nature. Jesus has set us free!

Romans 8:11–12 (NLT) — 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.

People who want to be obligated to England could still pay taxes to them. They could still house and feed their soldiers if they want to and they could still conform to English rule. But they don’t have to because their freedom has been won.

We can still give in and let Satan influence us. We can obey his every wish. We can still give in to our sinful passions and every whim of our sinful nature. But we don’t have to. Jesus set us free from all that. Jesus never gave in to sin or Satan because he had the Holy Spirit living in him. The Holy Spirit is a much great power and influence than Satan or our sinful nature combined. When we give in to the promptings of the Holy Spirit we will live in freedom and experience much peace.

Today as you celebrate July 4th I know that you will not be giving in to England. In fact that thought will probably not even cross your mind. So celebrate today and don’t let the thought of giving in to Satan or your sinful nature cross your mind. It will be a peaceful day!

Be Inspired Hilltop!

“may this be your Declaration of Dependence: “It is FOR FREEDOM that Christ has set me free. I will live with boldness, courage, and conviction. I will love freely, give generously, and pray passionately. And, I will entrust my whole soul and story to God because I belong to Him. Thank you, Jesus, You’ve set me free!”
    Enough said….
