John 14:27 (NLT) — 27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

My granddaughter Vesper had her 4th birthday on July 3rd. We celebrated her birthday on July 4th. Among those attending were three great grandmothers and one great grand father. I thought that was kind of cool because neither Cleo or myself could remember having any of our ‘greats’ at our birthday parties. By the time we had our 4th birthdays they all were dead. Most of them before we were born.

Vesper got many gifts and she opened them all and all the while giggling and laughing. She was absolutely thrilled with all of them even the clothes! I say that because as a boy the clothes never really thrilled me except one year I got a pair of cowboy boots and that put a smile on my face.

So Jesus has left us with a gift of –peace of mind and heart. Like Vesper we need to unwrap it or it will not do us any good. This gift is one that is designed to help us keep laughing and giggling at least for the most part. It is a gift designed to keep us from being troubled or afraid. It is designed to help us stay calm when all is not calm around us. It is designed to help us walk on water so to speak instead of the water overwhelming us.

So how do we unwrap this precious gift and put it into action? We unwrap it by faith. We must believe that this gift is ours. We must believe that the giver of this gift is always with us and will never leave us. After all Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He is our gift from the Father and he is our peace! But we must continue to believe this even though what we see around us is not peace or peaceful. It is our faith that takes hold of this gift, unwraps it and makes it useful.

What is the one thing that Jesus prayed for Peter?

Luke 22:32 (NLT) — 32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

Without faith we don’t unlock the gift of peace. Peter couldn’t make use of the gift of peace at the trial of Jesus because for short time he lost faith.

In Matthew 15 a Gentile woman’s daughter was possessed and tormented by a demon. What brought healing and peace to her home and her daughter?

Matthew 15:28 (NLT) — 28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.

Jairus came to Jesus and asked him to come and heal his daughter but while Jesus was on the way some messenger came from Jairus’ home and said not to trouble Jesus because the daughter had died Listen to Jesus’ response.

Mark 5:35–36 (NLT) — 35 While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.” 36 But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.”

I believe that is what Jesus would say to us today > “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.” Faith comes by reading, meditating and memorizing God’s word. Let the word of God find a home in your heart.

Romans 10:17 (NLT) — 17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

By faith unlock that gift of peace and you might find that your life will be filled with a bit more giggling and laughing:)

Be Inspired Hilltop!

P.S. Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead. Faith brought peace back into his home.

  1. Mary Anne Frank says

Sometimes I forget that faith is a gift. I think I have to conjure it up or try harder. I forget to just open the gift that God has already given me.

  2. When my circumstances become too overwhelming, I can temporarily loose my faith just like my keys. All my eyes see are my troubles and of course, then oppression hits like a mountain! Walking with my faith into the situation puts the circumstances under me and then peace is mine. Walking by my sight amplifies my circumstances and things seem to spin out of control. Pretty simple…have faith, giggle in the midst of everything and open my gift of peace.
