Just a few more thoughts on worship before get into a new memory verse next week. Psalm 108 was in my daily bible reading for yesterday. Here is the first verse:

Psalm 108:1 (NLT) — 1 My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!

It seems to me that we lose our worship to the Lord when we lose our confidence in the Lord. That is why it is so important to feed ourselves on the scriptures daily. The scriptures continually remind us of the unfailing love of the Lord and his faithfulness. The scriptures remind us that our Lord is sovereign and he has everything under control. In fact it would be insane to trust in anyone or anything other than the Lord. Nebuchadnezzar learned this the hard way. You can read his story in Daniel 4. When his sanity returned this is what he said about the Lord:

Daniel 4:34–36 (NLT) — 34 “After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. 35 All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’ 36 “When my sanity returned to me, so did my honor and glory and kingdom. My advisers and nobles sought me out, and I was restored as head of my kingdom, with even greater honor than before.

Notice in verse 34 where he says, “When I looked up.” We lose our confidence when we look everywhere but up to God. When our focus gets off God our worship gets off. When we look up we realize that God’s rule is everlasting, that his kingdom is eternal, that nothing on earth compares to Him, that he does what he pleases and nothing or nobody can stop him. When Neb looked up his sanity returned and he was able to worship and praise God.

My good people keep looking up so that you don’t lose your sanity or your confidence or your worship.
