2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT) — 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

There is a story in the Old Testament that will give us a little more insight into the area of giving.

2 Kings 4:1–6 (NLT) — 1 One day the widow of a member of the group of prophets came to Elisha and cried out, “My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the Lord. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves.” 2 “What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. 3 And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. 4 Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” 5 So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. 6 Soon every container was full to the brim! “Bring me another jar,” she said to one of her sons. “There aren’t any more!” he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing.

I want you to notice that when they quit pouring the oil stopped flowing. When we stop giving the blessings stop flowing. The blessings from the Lord always flow in proportion to our giving. Lets let scripture bring this lesson out to us.

2 Corinthians 9:6 (NLT) — 6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

Proverbs 11:24–25 (NLT) — 24 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. 25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Proverbs 19:17 (NLT) — 17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord— and he will repay you!

Proverbs 28:27 (NLT) — 27 Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

Deuteronomy 15:10 (NLT) — 10 Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

Luke 6:38 (NLT) — 38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT) — 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Keep the flow going. Keep giving. Or as the old saying goes: Keep on Truckin’ In other words ‘stay focused on giving’
