Romans 12:11 (NLT) — 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.

Cleo and I have a 1990 Mazda Miata only because our new accountant fought through a few years of past tax forms and found out that we paid $6ooo too much in taxes. He was able to get that money refunded for us which was more than enough to purchase our little red sports car. So now thanks to our accountant we can enjoy warm sunny days cruising in the countryside with the top down and the wind blowing through our hair. We are grateful and each year we let him know it.

When King David’s son Solomon was crowned King of Israel in place of his father the bible said that he and his people enjoyed riches and peace on all fronts.

1 Kings 4:22–25 (NLT) — 22 The daily food requirements for Solomon’s palace were 150 bushels of choice flour and 300 bushels of meal; 23 also 10 oxen from the fattening pens, 20 pasture-fed cattle, 100 sheep or goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roe deer, and choice poultry. 24 Solomon’s dominion extended over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah to Gaza. And there was peace on all his borders. 25 During the lifetime of Solomon, all of Judah and Israel lived in peace and safety. And from Dan in the north to Beersheba in the south, each family had its own home and garden.

The reason for this peace and prosperity was the King David and fought all of Israel’s enemies and defeated them. It was because of David’s efforts and a lot of shed blood that the people were blessed. The people should have been grateful to David.

Today us Christians can enjoy an anxious and worry free life because the bloody battle that Jesus fought at Calvary when he defeated Satan on the cross and rose from the dead. We have access to over 3,000 promises, we are indwelt by God’s Holy Spirit, we have angels to protect us, our sins have been forgiven so that we have no record of wrongs, our future in heaven is secure, and the power that sin had over us has been broken! Then add to all of that His grace and mercy.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (NLT) — 30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.

Colossians 2:13–15 (NLT) — 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

In light of all that Jesus has done for us shouldn’t we live each day in worship to Him? The Apostle Paul thinks so and that is why he exhorts us not to be lazy in our worship. To be lazy would be telling Jesus that we just do not appreciate all that he has done for us. If you are dragging your feet and twiddling your thumbs when it comes to daily worship think about all that he has done for and let those thoughts move you to give your body to God. Be quick to do good for and love others. Be very slow to do wrong. Be extremely slow to copy the behaviors and customs of this world. That would be good, grateful worship. Because of Jesus we can actually enjoy life:)

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Mark Gundersen says:

David defeated all of Israel’s enemies and they fell into the trap of success and self sufficiency. We do not want to fall into the same trap with all that Jesus did for us.

  2. That’s a pretty awesome list of God’s presence and presents we have every single day. We definitely have it all on this side of heaven. Thank you God for blessing us sooooooo richly!
