Hebrews 10:25 (NLT) — 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Rhythm = a strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound.

When you disrupt the rhythm of a song you disrupt the whole song. In baseball pitchers like to develop a rhythm on the mound as they pitch. They pitch the ball and the catcher throws it back without stalling and the pitcher sets himself chooses his pitch and throws. His motion is fluid and he throws it just like he would in practice without giving it a second thought. He is in a groove or rhythm. His pitches are going where he wants them to and they have a lot of movement so that the batter doesn’t get a good swing at it or much of the bat on the ball.

When opposing teams notice that the pitcher has developed this king of rhythm they do what they can do disrupt it. The batter will call time and step out of the batter’s box just to stall for awhile. Or the batter may bunt the ball so that the pitcher has to come off the mount to field the ball; anything to get him out of his rhythm. If they can get him out of his rhythm they feel like they have a better chance of beating him.

Our memory verse is about the rhythm in life of a Christian. You see when God created he established a rhythm to life for us.

Genesis 2:1–3 (NLT) — 1 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.

God didn’t rest because he was tired. He rested to look back and admire all the good he had done and he was setting a pattern or a rhythm of life that he wanted us to follow. In a sense he was saying, “Here is the key to navigating life successfully. Shut it down one day in seven. Use the day to come together as a family to worship, to pray, to hear my word, to thank me for the blessings received in other six days. Use this day to relax. Use this day to put me first and to remind you that all that you have comes from my hand. I will use this day to bless the other six and I will use this day to bless you physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. This is the rhythm that I have developed for you. If you get out of this rhythm it will wreck your life and the enemy will find it easy to beat you.”

God did not design out bodies to be on the go 24/7. I am convinced that the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental ills that we face is our society is because we have gotten out of rhythm. We have neglected God and his pattern. We have disrupted the song of life, if you will. We are out of the rhythm set for us by the creator.
