Hebrews 10:25 (NLT) — 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

The local church was the only institution that Jesus established on earth. He didn’t start hospitals, Bible colleges, schools, crisis centers etc. Most of these were started or came out of the local church or are sponsored by the local church. But the local church is God’s agenda for the world.

Matthew 16:16–18 (NLT) — 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

The church is built on the revelation from our Father that Jesus Christ is the only Savior and our Savior and that he is the true Son of God. This is the foundation of the Church and the Church exists to make Jesus Famous. That is our agenda. The gates of hell couldn’t conquer Jesus and they will not conquer the Church. Anyone to whom it has been revealed that Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of the living God and is that person believes and receives Jesus they are to be part of the Church. To Jesus that is a given.

Acts 2:41 (NLT) — 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

The Church is where peace is found and people learn the fear of the Lord.

Acts 9:31 (NLT) — 31 The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.

Help comes from the Church.

Acts 11:30 (NLT) — 30 This they did, entrusting their gifts to Barnabas and Saul to take to the elders of the church in Jerusalem.

The Church is where the good things of God start. It is where God is put on display for the world to see. It is where prisoners are released >

Acts 12:5 (NLT) — 5 But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him.

The Church is in the care of the Lord.

Acts 14:23 (NLT) — 23 Paul and Barnabas also appointed elders in every church. With prayer and fasting, they turned the elders over to the care of the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.

The Church is where our faith is strengthened.

Acts 16:5 (NLT) — 5 So the churches were strengthened in their faith and grew larger every day.

The Church is where we are guarded and fed.

Acts 20:28 (NLT) — 28 “So guard yourselves and God’s people. Feed and shepherd God’s flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders.

The Church is where we find acceptance and where we build each other up.

Romans 14:19 (NLT) — 19 So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.

The Church is enriched by the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 1:5 (NLT) — 5 Through him, God has enriched your church in every way—with all of your eloquent words and all of your knowledge.

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NLT) — 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages.

The Church is the body of Christ.

Ephesians 4:15 (NLT) — 15 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

The Church is the keeper of truth.

1 Timothy 3:15 (NLT) — 15 so that if I am delayed, you will know how people must conduct themselves in the household of God. This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth.

As you can see the Church was Jesus’ agenda. Oh that we would be as enthused about the Church as Jesus was.

“There is something wrong with our Christianity when we have to beg most of our crowd to come  to church to hear about it.” Vance Havner
