Genesis 47:2 (NLT) — 2 Joseph took five of his brothers with him and presented them to Pharaoh.

What Joseph did here reminds me of what Jesus has already done for us. In the bible I believe that five is the number for grace. Joseph takes five of his brothers and recommends them to Pharaoh. After all that his brothers did against him Joseph doesn’t hold it against them and he is willing to present them to Pharaoh as if they were the best brothers one could have!

Jesus does this for us when we receive him as our Lord and Savior. He presents us to the Father with a spotless resume; even though we aren’t always faithful, even though we don’t always maintain the faith we should, even though we let our sinful nature grab a hold of us and control what we do, even though we use words we shouldn’t, even though our actions are less than exemplary, even though we love conditionally, even though we wrestle with forgiving certain people, even though we don’t always put others first, even though we aren’t always grateful. No, Jesus presents us to the Father as if we are the best brothers and sisters one could have.

Joseph didn’t mention at all the failures and flaws of his brothers and Jesus doesn’t mention our failures and flaws either. Like Joseph, Jesus just says, “This is my family.”

Hebrews 2:11 (NLT) — 11 So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.

Joseph was a pretty amazing brother and so is Jesus. And Jesus also believes he has pretty amazing brothers and sisters.
