2 Corinthians 5:13–14 (NLT) — 13 If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14 Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life.

Paul is saying that God’s love causes us to be crazy for him and serious about you. His love has a hand in everything we do. Don’t you want to be crazy for God? Don’t you want His love to have a hand in everything we do? If we were crazy for God we would live for God and talk about God. You see when you are crazy you don’t worry about what other people think. You are not concerned that what you do may be an embarrassment to you family. I mean think about the people who go to football games with painted faces, weird hairdos, and crazy antics. They aren’t worried about what other people think because they are crazy about their team. They are compelled by love for their team.

Think about the adults that dress for Halloween with all their weird, ugly and at times offensive costumes. And those that walk around town as zombies. Do you think they care about what other people think? Of course they don’t. They are compelled by their love for weirdness.

Or the people that march in the LGBT parades; some of them look absolutely hideous and they scream and yell and tell people that what they are involved in should be accepted as normal living behavior. They are compelled by their love for their deviant selves.

We have the love of Christ to compel us, to move us, to control the way we behave. Christ’s love was put into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Let’s let that love move us into craziness for Christ. It is crazy in the eyes of the world to lay down your life for your spouse. It is crazy to remain faithful, to remain a virgin until you get married. It is crazy to get married when you can just live with someone; after all a marriage license is ‘just a piece of paper’. It is crazy not to talk ill of our government leaders. It is crazy to turn the other cheek. It is crazy to obey your parents and accept their discipline when you have done wrong.

It is crazy to believe that the bible is the word of God. It is crazy to believe that there is only one way to heaven. It is crazy to believe that there is a place called hell. It is crazy to believe that a guy who hung on a cross a couple of thousand years ago was God and he hung there to forgive us of our sins. It is crazy to believe that we have no record of wrongs because the blood of Jesus has wiped it clean. It is crazy to believe in a thing called ‘sin’. It is crazy to believe that someday there is going to be and event called the ‘rapture’.

Our world needs more of the craziness of the love of God!

1 Corinthians 1:20–28 (NLT) — 20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. 24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength. 26 Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. 27 Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. 28 God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.

Tithing and having your needs met is crazy in the world’s eyes but natural in God’s eyes.
