In the first chapter of second Timothy Paul lets us know how God wanted human beings to live life. The godly man, a man who takes his lead from God, was to lead and the godly woman was to follow. Then everything would be done in a godly manner. Pretty simple right?

When that order isn’t followed problems occur. Adam was to set the rhythm for life in the garden. He was put in charge of the garden. He was the Foreman. He knew the rules and he was to see that they were followed. So when Eve came along Adam was to fill her in on life in the garden.

A good foreman will always communicate the days instructions with his workers and then periodically check to see if things are running smoothly at the worksite. Apparently Adam had shirked his duties and Eve was left on her own a lot.

Communication must have broken down otherwise you would think that Eve would have told Adam that the serpent was trying to undermine Adam’s authority by telling Eve to do something that was outside of her job description and contrary to all that she had been taught by Adam. Perhaps Eve felt pressured and Adam didn’t step in to protect her from making a fatal mistake. Adam didn’t lead in a godly way and Eve didn’t follow in a godly way and as they say, “All hell broke loose!”

1 Timothy 2:8 (NLT) — 8 In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.

Remember that every where we go is a place of worship. Whatever we do is our worship to the Lord. Paul exhorts the men to take the lead.

Worship and prayer = Take the lead when it come to spiritual things. Pray alone. Pray together, but most importantly, Pray! Know the Bible, teach the Bible and model the instructions of the Bible. Don’t be lazy and shirk your duties.

Free from anger and controversy = Take the lead in relationships. Show how to communicate. Show how to put others first. Show how to love unconditionally. Show how to resolve conflict. Show how to forgive. Show how to bless. Show how to protect. Don’t stand aloof. Be hands on.

1 Timothy 2:15 (NLT) — 15 But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

When a godly man leads and a godly woman follows lives are saved. This is God’s order of how human beings are to live. What our society needs is godly men who lead and godly women who follow that lead. Hilltop will we be those godly men and women?

Be Inspired Hilltop!

  1. Sadly, there are many godly women who desperately long to have their husbands lead them in the way God intended and many godly men who long to have their wives follow their lead. Sadly again, when only one spouse realizes all the negative effects this has on their marriage, not to mention the ripple effects that go even further, they never reach the potential that God intended for them and for his glory. In fact, desperately longing, waiting and waiting some more for what you know God’s desires are, can lead to wrong, sinful behavior. Now both are at fault! Is it any wonder why this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad path to follow is satan’s perfect plan?

Marriage definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. With that in mind one should choose a potential spouse wisely. It isn’t like choosing an item from Walmart and then realizing it isn’t what you wanted so you can take it back and exchange it. Too many exchanges have been made in many marriages only to find out that the exchange isn’t much better because the ‘exchangee’ is still the same person. Someone told me once that the grass is only greener on the side thats watered! Thank you for your response Peggy.
