Deuteronomy 1:2 (NLT) — 2 Normally it takes only eleven days to travel from Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea, going by way of Mount Seir.

When God speaks to us how long does it take us to act on it? We may say, “I’ll become a worshipper, I’ll get the Word into me, I’ll talk to my neighbor about Jesus. I’ll love my wife, respect my husband, treat my parents decently, quit hanging with people who bring me down, watch carefully what I put in my body, get involved in a life group, I’ll start tithing and be more of an encourager. etc. etc. And before you know it years go by and a generation is gone and you are still plodding along the same path as always but never getting any closer to what God has asked you to do. When God speaks the best thing to do is to do it:)

Deuteronomy 1:6–7 (NLT) — 6 “When we were at Mount Sinai, the Lord our God said to us, ‘You have stayed at this mountain long enough. 7 It is time to break camp and move on. Go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the neighboring regions—the Jordan Valley, the hill country, the western foothills, the Negev, and the coastal plain. Go to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, and all the way to the great Euphrates River.

You have been at this level of maturity long enough it is time to grow even more. It is time to go and bring God’s love to the people you find it hardest to love. It is time to bring God’s message of salvation to those whom you think will not receive it. It is time to start trusting God more by giving over and above your tithe. It is time to spend a little more time absorbing God’s word and making daily application of it in your life. It is time to quit looking at the sins of others and your own sins and see them and you as God sees them and you. If you have given you life to Jesus God sees you as a saint so quit putting yourself down. Are you God that you can judge and criticize!

Deuteronomy 1:8 (NLT) — 8 Look, I am giving all this land to you! Go in and occupy it, for it is the land the Lord swore to give to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to all their descendants.’ ”

As I said in an earlier blog, Israel never took all the land that God promised them. What about us? Are we living in all that God has promised us?

When I bought my motorcycle a few years ago included in the purchase price was a tank bag which fit on top of the gas tank which would hold my flat tire repair kit, gloves, ear plugs, drinking water bladder etc. One day I was wishing for an extra key for my motorcycle. Only one came with it when I purchased the bike. Well one day I had taken everything out the tank bag in order to clean it and rearranged what I had in there. I discovered a well hidden pocket on the back inside of the bag. I opened up the pocket and in there was an extra key for the motorcycle!

It had been mine all along but because I hadn’t looked for it I couldn’t take advantage of having it. God has made us many promises which are ours to claim. God paid for all these promises and then he gave them to us. I wonder if we aren’t experiencing the blessing of these promises because we don’t know that they are there. They are tucked away in the pages of scripture just waiting for us to discover them. Once we discover them we can claim them. It is like the Lord is saying to us like he said to Israel in the above verse, “Look, I am giving all these promises! Go and find them and claim them.

Deuteronomy 1:26 (NLT) — 26 “But you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God and refused to go in.

If refuse to go and look for the promises after God has encouraged us to go; well than we have no one to blame but ourselves for the lack of blessing in our lives.

Deuteronomy 1:32–33 (NLT) — 32 “But even after all he did, you refused to trust the Lord your God, 33 who goes before you looking for the best places to camp, guiding you with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day.

The promises of God are the best that he has to offer us. It says to the Lord that we trust him when we do our best to find them.
