When I am with my granddaughter Vesper I have to really encourage her to eat food that has protein in it. I am a meat guy but she isn’t into it. She would rather eat carbs than protein because to her carbs go down easy and they taste good. She wants to be a ‘soccer girl’ when she grows up so I tell her that to be a strong soccer player she needs her protein. She will drink my protein shakes but I have yet to convince about a lot of meat.

As Christians I know that we want to be ‘faith people’. However to build strong faith we need to eat the protein that builds faith and this is where our verse for the day comes into play.

Psalm 46:1 (NLT) — 1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

Trouble = a tight spot. So to bolster our faith when we are in a tight spot the psalmist brags on the sheltering safety and strength of God. God is a place of safety. A safe house. A place where people can be trusted to help us, to hide us from the enemy. A place where we will not be in danger or be taken advantage of.

Not only is God a safe place but He is strong enough to withstand any attack. Nothing and no one can defeat God.
He is always ready, always available, always on the scene. Nothing escapes his eyesight. Because of what we know about God we will not fear. But trouble has to come because it is the protein that our faith needs to feed on in order for us to grow a strong faith. Like Vesper not liking meat we are not big on this type of protein either. But it is exactly what we need.

Caleb knew this. When everybody else ,but him and Joshua, heard about the giants in the Promised Land they all got scared but not Caleb. He knew that this trouble was exactly what they needed in order for their faith in the Lord to grow strong. Listen to what he says:

Numbers 14:9 (ESV) — 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them.”

Numbers 14:9 (LEB) — 9 Only do not rebel against Yahweh, and you will not fear the people of the land, because they will be our food. Their protection has been turned from them; Yahweh is with us. You should not fear them.”

Numbers 14:9 (The Message) — 9 Just don’t rebel against God! And don’t be afraid of those people. Why, we’ll have them for lunch! They have no protection and God is on our side. Don’t be afraid of them!”

Numbers 14:9 (NCV) — 9 Don’t turn against the Lord! Don’t be afraid of the people in that land! We will chew them up. They have no protection, but the Lord is with us. So don’t be afraid of them.”

Remember to the Christian trusting in the Lord trouble is protein. Smile and eat your protein:)

In Hebrews 5:12-13, that was recently one of the chapters we read, discussed the importance of getting the meat of the gospel and not just the milk.
