Psalm 119:73 (NLT) — 73 You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands.

Cars are made to run on gas so the sensible person puts gas in the car.

God created us to run on His word. So the sensible person will fill up on the Word of God. Cars need gas to run on all cylinders just like we need God’s word to run on all cylinders.

Matthew 4:4 NLT4But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

God’s word tells us where we came from, why we are here, what we must do to succeed in life, and where we are going. As we read we see ourselves in the people and circumstances that are described in the pages of the bible.
God knows us better than we know ourselves and He shares this knowledge with us in His word. The bible is a mirror in which we see ourselves–and do something about what we see.

James 1:22-27 NLT 22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. 26If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless. 27Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Breathe into me your word so that I may truly live. Adam was formed from the dust and God breathed life into him. We need to have the breath of God’s word living inside and to realize that without his word we wander aimlessly through life.
Example: Patients in hospitals are hooked up to oxygen and sometimes in their delirium they try to pull the oxygen tubes off.  An aide or a nurse needs to be there to make sure the oxygen stays hooked up.

The psalmist in our opening verse is asking God to be the one to keep him hooked up to the word which is the oxygen of life. Without it we sputter and  die. Any sensible person knows that. Ask the Lord to keep you sensible.
