Matthew 15:32 (NLT) — 32 Then Jesus called his disciples and told them, “I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, and they have nothing left to eat. I don’t want to send them away hungry, or they will faint along the way.”

I got the following information on fainting from Medline Plus.

Fainting is a temporary loss of consciousness. If you’re about to faint, you’ll feel dizzy, lightheaded, or nauseous. Your field of vision may “white out” or “black out.” Your skin may be cold and clammy. You lose muscle control at the same time, and may fall down.

Fainting usually happens when your blood pressure drops suddenly, causing a decrease in blood flow to your brain. It is more common in older people. Some causes of fainting include

  • Heat or dehydration
  • Emotional distress
  • Standing up too quickly
  • Certain medicines
  • Drop in blood sugar
  • Heart problems

When someone faints, make sure that the airway is clear and check for breathing. The person should stay lying down for 10-15 minutes. Most people recover completely. Fainting is usually nothing to worry about, but it can sometimes be a sign of a serious problem. If you faint, it’s important to see your health care provider and find out why it happened.

It is pretty easy to over power a person who has just fainted. Jesus was concerned that without food people would faint on their way home. They would be easy prey for dishonest people to take advantage of. So Jesus made sure that they were fed before he sent them home.

There are a lot of people who faint spiritually because they fail to feed regularly on the Bible. Their flesh is able to overpower their underfed fainting spirit. They are also easy prey for Satan as they put up very little resistance to the temptations that he throws at them. Jesus always had a word from scripture to throw at the devil when the devil tried to tempt him to do wrong. Jesus was not easy prey for the enemy because he was strong in spirit from feeding on the scriptures.

Have you had any spiritual fainting spells lately? Has the enemy taken advantage of you? Does your flesh get the upper hand over your spirit? Don’t get up too quickly from feeding on the scriptures; stay until you feel full:)

Psalm 119:133 (NLT) — 133 Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.

Psalm 119:161 (NLT) — 161 Powerful people harass me without cause, but my heart trembles only at your word.
