1 Samuel 16:1 (NLT) — 1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king.”

God is not a God to sit still. Jesus said that his father was always working. The Spirit of the Lord was moving over the earth. Jesus always seemed to be on the move. We can’t get stuck in the past because of a hurt a disappointment or a failure. We may have done something we regret, experienced a raw deal, and gone through hard times. We need to repent or forgive if necessary and move on. God is moving on and if we don’t we will miss his present move.

1 Samuel 16:4 (NLT) — 4 So Samuel did as the Lord instructed.

You can never go wrong doing what the Lord instructs you to do.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT) — 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Apparently the Lord didn’t see obedience in the heart of Eliab. However he did see it in the heart of David > Acts 13:22 (NLT) — 22 But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’

Don’t you want the Lord to be able to say that about you?

Psalm 32:9 (NLT) — 9 Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

Have sense enough to obey the Lord. Be sensitive to the prompting and nudging of the Holy Spirit. Most of all joyfully and enthusiastically obey the Lord. Horses and mules usually don’t want to leave the barn. Don’t be like that. Get out there and go on an adventure with Jesus! Don’t be afraid of the world. God is surrounding you with songs of victory and His unfailing love. So rejoice and be glad all you who obey Him! Shout for joy!
