Psalm 76:1 (NLT) — 1 God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

I felt honored years ago when a young man came up to me and said that he was reading his bible more because I preached from it so enthusiastically. His compliment honored me. On a mission trip when I was a much younger pastor but still 20 years older than the kids in my youth group; we had gone to Mexico and then up to L. A. to work in a homeless shelter. On a scheduled day off one of the young lads asked if he could just hang out with me. I felt honored that he wanted to spend time  with me rather than go sight seeing with the rest of his peers.

A young couple came up to me after their wedding ceremony and handed me a check for a very large sum of money. He said that they really appreciated the time I took with them in pre-marital counseling and then also for presiding over their wedding. I really felt honored by their giving.

The other day a man came up to me and said that by observing my life he himself had grown closer to Jesus. I felt honored and humbled at the same time. A couple of years ago when I stepped back from being head pastor at Hilltop they had a little coffee and cake time to honor me. Some people gave testimony about me being a blessing in their lives. One testimony that I particularly remember was from a young father who said that the reason he was at Hilltop was because I was real and he could relate to me. Wow did I feel honored!

When I was selling motorcycles for Ma’ Cycles in West Fargo the owners came to me one day and said that they appreciated my devotion to the company and they were going to give me a new motorcycle to ride each year and then at the end of the year they would sell it as demo bike. I felt honored.

The Psalmist said that God is honored in Judah. I know how it feels to be honored so I want God to be able to say, “I am honored in Dan’s life.” I am going to do what I can to make him feel honored and I am going to start by taking the time to tell him how much he means to me. With the help of the Holy Spirit I am also going to keep adjusting my lifestyle to conform to the lifestyle of Jesus.

How is God honored in your life?
