One of the things that sold us on buying our house in 2003 was the wide staircase going down into the basement. After moving many people into houses with narrow staircases that also would make a right hand turns, and having to force washers, dryers, and beds through those small openings and tight corners; and developing a hernia on the one of the moves, this staircase was the deal sealer. No matter what we moved to the basement it was a breeze and easy on the back. The steps held any weight that we put on them and rather than being frustrated and exhausted we smiled every time we moved something down or up the stairs.

John 1:51 (NLT) — 51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”

So when this NLT translation described Jesus as a ‘stairway I was all smiles:) Trusting Jesus is not a heavy burden. Trusting Jesus brings no fatigue and no hernias. Trusting Jesus means no pushing and shoving to get to heaven. We are not the carriers, He is! The mules that take people to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up have a weight limit. You stand on a scale and if you are over a certain weight you don’t get to go. Their is no weight limit with Jesus. Their is no scale to stand on. There is no sin that he couldn’t carry away and not a person that he couldn’t carry to heaven.

There are many names used to describe Jesus like, Lamb of God, Good Shepherd, Bread of Life, Son of Man, the Way, the Door, the Light of the World; however the ‘Stairway’ is fast becoming one of my favorites:)
