Revelation 4:11 (NLT) — 11 “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

One of my pet peeves is the amount of money pro athletes make. As far as I am concerned no one is worthy of making millions of dollars playing sports. No one deserves to be paid 20 million a year when the best that they can do is to get three hits every ten times they come to bat. That is only 30%! And most of them can’t even do that.

But when it comes to God He definitely is worthy or deserving of all the honor, glory and power. Glory means for the most part to praise Him. We stand and cheer when a player hits a home run; in essence we are giving him glory. What praise does our God deserve for creating the ground that the ball player runs on, creating the atmosphere that the ball travels through, creating the air that the player breathes, and giving the player the body that those skills and talents are housed in.

Acts 17:28 (NLT) — 28 For in him we live and move and exist.

Honor = respect, reverence and esteem. What human being can we give total honor to when we are all flawed? There is no perfect human being and yet God is perfect. There is no darkness in Him. He has no flaws, no character issues, He is morally pure. He has unfailing love. He loves regardless of the response to his love. He made the ultimate love sacrifice on our part by giving us his Son to forgive us of our sins. He is the same day in and day out. His love endures forever. He is totally trustworthy. His word truly is his bond. He knows all, sees all, hears all and is everywhere at once. He is full of grace and truth and His mercy is new every day.

James 1:17–18 (NLT) — 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.

Power = Almighty energy. Who has the power to heal, raise the dead, cast out demons, cause order in our universe, bring rain and withhold rain, set the boundaries of the oceans, part the seas, bring water from a rock, manna from heaven, direct ravens to feed a prophet, cause fire from heaven to lick up fire soaked offering, tame an unridden donkey, direct a whale to swallow a human and then spit him out on the exact designated spot, flood the earth, control His tongue, have self control, be patient in all things, raise the dead, still storms, turn water into wine, cause a donkey to speak, wash away sins with His blood, have all of His prophecies come true,  okay so we could go on and on but I think you get the point.

They got it right in heaven, yes our God deserves all honor, glory and power. The question is will we get it right on earth?

The last stanza in “O Worship the King’ sums up us as humans.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail:
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend
