John 8:59 (NLT) — 59 At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple.

In our story Jesus was hidden from the people to protect him. How this happened I am not sure. The problem I see in our culture is that the retailers and news media have also done a good job of keeping Jesus hidden from us. This time of year a person really has  to search hard to find out whose birthday it is that we are celebrating this December 25. Hiding Jesus is no longer for his protection and it certainly isn’t for our protection. Without Jesus we have no protection against Satan and his demons. We have no protection from eternal damnation when we die. A hidden Jesus protects no one because without Jesus people cannot know the truth. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(John 14:6)

Most of our culture is clueless to the harmful effects of hiding Jesus just like the thousands of teenagers who are clueless when it comes to the effects of ‘juuling’. Copy and paste the following link to read more.

Juuling is the name for using e-cigarettes. Juul is one of the manufactures. They look like cool flash drives but the flavored vapors that are inhaled are full of nicotine and who knows what else that may be harming the lungs and body. These harmful additives are hidden by bright colored, cool looking packages just like Jesus is hidden by all the bright lights, tinsel, and cool packages. Our culture breathes in this Jesus lacking atmosphere unware of the harmful results.

Proverbs 7:23 (NLT) — 23 He was like a bird flying into a snare, little knowing it would cost him his life.

Cleo bought Vesper a puzzle book and in the book were pictures where you had to find certain items that were hidden in the pictures. You might have to find a feather, spoon, squirrel, trumpet etc. Some proved to be quite a challenge to find but we had a lot of fun with it.

Not only does our culture do a good job of hiding Jesus but at times I find myself doing a good or should I say bad job of hiding Jesus. There are times people would have to look extremely hard to find Jesus because of my bad attitude or the impatience that I display. There are days when my joy seems to have evaporated and left an ugly stain on the day. Marriage is supposed to be a good picture of Jesus but some days I am sure that my marriage looks more like a demolition derby where both Cleo and I come away looking rather battered. You get what I am saying, right?

What do you say that together lets all make it a point to not hide Jesus.
