Today we read in Zechariah >

Zechariah 13:7 (NLT) — 7 “Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, the man who is my partner,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “Strike down the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn against the lambs.

And also today in our reading Jesus reaffirms this prophecy to his disciples.

John 16:31–33 (NLT) — 31 Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe? 32 But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone.

Don’t you just love the fact that all of the bible is in harmony. The harmony is that all of the scriptures point to Jesus. Jesus is the main thread throughout all of scripture. Our lives would be in harmony if all of what we say and do point to Jesus. A weather vane points in the direction that the wind is blowing. No matter what the direction the winds of our cult blow, we Christians should always point to Jesus.

The best way to point to Jesus is to live as human beings created in the image of God. Human beings are to love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul and strength and their neighbors as themselves. Human beings were created by God to love because our Creator God is love. When we do not love we are not living up to being human and this is what constitutes sin.

J.D. Meyers, “Sin is when we fail to live in loving relationships with one another as God intended, and instead allow desire to take us down the path toward envy, rivalry, accusation, violence, and murder. Sin is violence against others, and especially the violence against them that we commit in God’s name.”

The sin we commit is committed in God’s name because as Christians we bear the name of Jesus.

Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. 33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Like Jesus we are not alone. Somehow the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit take up residence in us >

John 14:23–24 (NLT) — 23 Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. 24 Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.

That is why we can have peace no matter which way or how strong the winds of our culture blow. Darkness has always tried to take down Jesus; however it has never succeeded. If we remain in Jesus by obeying his word and setting aside time to pray and worship and being human the way were designed to be human the darkness will never be able to take us down either.

John 1:5 (NLT) — 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Revelation 12:11 (NLT) — 11 And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.

Matthew 6:14–15 (NLT) — 14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

When we forgive we are being truly human and pointing in the direction of Jesus.
