2 Chronicles 36:22–23 (NLT) — 22 In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom: 23 “This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: “The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build him a Temple at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Any of you who are his people may go there for this task. And may the Lord your God be with you!”

All through this chapter in fact all through Kings and Chronicles we saw kings and kingdoms rise and fall. God’s people were like yo-yo’s, up and down in their worship of Him. We see that God always has the last word. No king rises to power unless God allows it and this was not limited to the nation of Israel. God is sovereign.

So in starting the New Year the last two verses in 2 Chronicles brings great hope, peace and joy to my heart. God is the one who stirs up kings and rulers to do His will. God is the straw that stirs the drink if you will.

These last two verses give us insight as how to pray for America in 2019. Pray that God would stir the hearts of our President, Senators, Representatives, Supreme Court Justices, media publishers and producers, all those who have power to affect and effect America, and for all Americans to do the will of the Lord. Ask God to put His thoughts in their minds so that they think they are their own thoughts. We are to pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:2).

Pray that God will bring dignity back into America.

Proverbs 16:9 (NLT) — 9 We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

Proverbs 19:21 (NLT) — 21 You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.

Proverbs 21:30 (NLT) — 30 No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the Lord.

Proverbs 22:12 (NLT) — 12 The Lord preserves those with knowledge, but he ruins the plans of the treacherous.

Isaiah 46:10 (NLT) — 10 Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.

Psalm 33:11 (NLT) — 11 But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.

Now you can have a Happy New Year:)
