I googled, “How many thoughts go through your mind in a day” and this is what came up:

Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour. That’s incredible. Other experts estimate a smaller number, of 50,000 thoughts per day, which means about 2100 thoughts per hour. This too, is a great number of thoughts.

The above research gives even more credibility, wonder , and awe to the great God and Father that we serve when we read the following verse:

Proverbs 21:1 (NLT) — 1 The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases.

The heart here is the mind, the place where the king makes his decisions. Water directed would be a picture of a farmer digging an irrigation ditch to channel the water to the exact place in his field where it can do the most good and produce the best crop. This is kind of like us channeling water through a hose and putting the water exactly where we want it to go. It could be putting water in certain flower pots where we want the flowers to grow. It could be aiming the water at the dirt on our car to wash it off. It could be to fill our child’s wading pool on a hot summer day. In other words we guide the water to wherever we please. Because we turn on the spigot and we hold the hose we control the placement of the water.

Our God is able to put his thoughts in the mind of the king along with the other thousands of thoughts that are already there and the Lord is able to direct his thoughts so that they are the ones that get the king’s attention! To me that is ‘mind boggling’:) But not only that the king thinks those thoughts are his thoughts and so he carries them out. Pretty shrewd on God’s part, right? And remember that those thoughts are so that the king can do the most good, all because God is good and God is love.

I believe this verse is here so that we will always be encouraged to pray not only for our leaders but for all people. Pray that God would put his thoughts in their minds. What wonderful, efficient way to pray. Pray it fervently. Pray it daily. Pray it with confidence. Just pray it!  If God has no trouble putting His thoughts in the mind of the big guy than it won’t be difficult for him to put His thoughts in any person’s mind. Remember > they are but water in His hands.

Perhaps this is some of what Jesus had in mind when he was telling his disciples to pray and not give up.

Luke 18:1 (NLT) — 1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.
