Proverbs 21:4 (NLT) — 4 Haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions are all sin.

The verdict is in. Yes there is sin in the world. You wouldn’t know if you hadn’t opened your bible lately because we sure don’t hear much about it on the news or in social media.

According to our above verse sin is considered evil so it seems like that is something we should avoid, right? Well if we are going to avoid it then we need to know what sin is particularly when we read that the wages of sin is death and that all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23, 6:23)

Most of us have heard that sin is ‘missing the mark’ or as the was just stated ‘falling short of God’s glory. So what is God’s glory and how have we fallen short of it?

God created us in His image. The glory of God in humanity is when we live as God intended us to live. God created us as human beings and he wants us to be humans. Jeremy Meyer’s says, “The glory of God is best seen when humans live as the images of God on earth, just as He created us to be.”

We are not living fully as the humans God designed us to be when we are missing the mark of his glory by displaying haughty eyes, a proud heart, and evil actions.(thinking we are better than the next person, that we are God’s gift to mankind and we can do as we please with no one to give an account to).

Living fully as human beings is another way of being holy > wholeness. So when we humans live in right relationship with each other and God we bring a wholeness or holiness to our world. We are set apart as God’s image bearers. Ok so now think about this > sin is not failing to live like God, we weren’t created to be God, sin is failing to live like humans created in the image of God. Sin is anything that keeps us from becoming the human beings that God designed us to be. We were made to be relational with God and each other and sin kills relationships.

Genesis 1:26–27 (NLT) — 26 Then God said, “Let us make human beings(or man, mankind) in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” 27 So God created human beings(or man, mankind) in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

As I read this I am grateful that I live in AD and not BC. God created a way to live in His image. Even though we are saved if we know Jesus, we still sin . I can go to the Father and confess my sin and He wipes it away never to remember it again. How often I continue to beat myself up after I have repented. God forgives us and we can move on. He forgets so we should forget too and get on with walking in His image. Living in His image takes courage and strength in our culture today. But God tells us to be strong and courageous because He is with us. Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice , Make me strong and courageous so I can walk in your image.
