If you have been a Christian for awhile you have learned that God put on this earth to be stewards or managers of all that he has given us. This purpose for us started way back in Genesis >  Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Genesis 1:28 (NLT) — 28. Jesus reiterated this idea of managing in many of his parables >  Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, ‘Invest this for me while I am gone.’ Luke 19:13 (NLT) — 13

So when it comes to management or investment I think we think mostly of time, money and resources. But I believe this next verse in proverbs carries our management or investment to a new level.

Proverbs 15:30 (NLT) — 30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health.

This verse indicates to me that we are to be managers or investors of a cheerful look, a joyful heart, good news and good health. Why would we walk around with dour, sour faces in light of all that God has done for us and given to us? We are one of the most blessed nations in the world. Walking through the isles in our grocery stores should leave us with a perpetual cheerful look on our faces. Look at the choices we have in just pickles and condiments. When I was in Perm, Russia in 1994, I could not find a jar of pickles in the grocery store. In fact I marveled at all the empty shelves.

Walk through our car lots, clothing stores, and take a look at all the eating out places we have. That should help sustain a cheerful look. Particularly when we realized we have all this because of the blessing of God.

The fact that we live in a democracy should keep the joy level in our hearts very high. We get to vote in our leaders. We choose the schools that we want to go to. Here in Fergus Falls we can send our children to Christian schools, or other schools in the surrounding areas if we want to. Besides that the Holy Spirit put the love of God in our hearts when we received Jesus as our Lord and savior. Isn’t it the love of God that lures us into being joyful?

Now granted much of the news that we read and hear about isn’t that good but we are containers of the ultimate good news that there is forgiveness and salvation in the name of Jesus. That good news should eradicate all the anxiety and worry that lead to bad health. In fact Jesus said, “But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.” Luke 10:20 (NLT)

What do people need most of in this world? I would say cheerful looks, joyful hearts, and good news which leads to good health. We Christians have all this and we are to manage and invest them wisely so that we don’t run out but always have enough to give away on a day to day basis. We don’t need polls that tell us that the stock market is going up, jobs are available to all, taxes have been reduced and that new business startups are thriving. People who are unsure of the future need these things to bring on a cheerful look, a joyful heart and good news. We Christians are sure of our future and because of that we manage to have cheerful looks, joyful hearts and good news. And by investing these cheerful looks, joyful hearts and good news we will reap more of the same.

Remember what Jesus said in Luke 6  > “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:37–38 (NLT)

Here is a promise from Jesus that good management and investment will pay great dividends.
