The psalmist is putting together a choir to praise the Lord. Everything and everyone is commanded to join this choir. As far as I can see there are no exceptions and no excuses are accepted.

Psalm 148:1 (NLT) β€” 1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens! Praise him from the skies!

Here is the command invitation. You might say this is a ‘command performance’. πŸ™‚ It doesn’t matter where you happen to be the command is to praise the Lord.

Psalm 148:2 (NLT) β€” 2 Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven!

Remember that those angels who would not take part in this choir were banned from heaven. When you think about it, anyone who refuses to become part of this choir would be quite miserable in heaven with all the praise that will be going on there. Imagine what an army of praise could do when it comes to destroying the enemy. We are part of an army of praise! (2 Chronicles 20:21-24)

Psalm 148:3 (NLT) β€” 3 Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars!

The sun, moon and stars praise the Lord by doing what they were created to do > shine.

Psalm 148:4 (NLT) β€” 4 Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds!

The skies and clouds praise the Lord by doing what they were designed to do > be a canopy over our heads and bring the rains when we need it.

Psalm 148:5 (NLT) β€” 5 Let every created thing give praise to the Lord, for he issued his command, and they came into being.

β€œEvolution may be atheistic; but the doctrine of creation logically demands worship; and hence, as the tree is known by its fruit, it proves itself to be true. Those who were created by command are under command to adore their Creator.” (Spurgeon)

If there is a command that means that there is a commander.

Psalm 148:6 (NLT) β€” 6 He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked.

The Lord is our commander and we will be able to praise him forever and ever. We do not need to fear global warming what we need to fear is the outcome of not joining this praise choir.

Psalm 148:7–10 (NLT) β€” 7 Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, 8 fire and hail, snow and clouds, wind and weather that obey him, 9 mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all livestock, small scurrying animals and birds,

All of the above praise the Lord by being and doing what he created them to be and do. No gender issues here to resolve. No grumbling or complaining just satisfied praise. The commander commands and all of the above begin to praise.

Psalm 148:11–12 (NLT) β€” 11 kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, 12 young men and young women, old men and children.

Here is where things get a little dicey. The heavens, the earth, nature, the animal kingdom are smart enough to obey the Lord. One should never say, “He’s as dumb as a rock!” Hey even the rocks know enough to praise the Lord but the majority of human beings haven’t yet reached this intelligence level.

Psalm 148:13–14 (NLT) β€” 13 Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heaven! 14 He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful onesβ€” the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the Lord!

Father I pray that we all, all of us over all the world, would praise you. We praise mankind, we praise the stars by looking to them for signs and guidance, many worship animals, mother earth is revered and the universe is honored but we have forgotten you. We look to the created instead of the Creator. Father forgive us. May you continue to draw all mankind close to yourself so that all will honor you with the praise that you so richly deserve.
