Giving birth can be a wonderful thing. Who doesn’t like to hold newborn babies or play with little Labrador puppies? However not all births are wonderful.

Psalm 7:14 (NLT) — 14 The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies.

This verse makes a compelling case for backing up Jesus’ statement to Nicodemus that you, “Must be born again.” Of course Jesus was talking about an inner spiritual transformation; a new birth would happen when the Holy Spirit would transform our selfish spirit into the same godly spirit that Jesus had. Now instead of conceiving evil we would have the ability to conceive the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We would be, if you will, pregnant with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. As we allow that seed to grow within us we will give birth to love etc, and through the years the fruit will taste better and better and we grow on to maturity.

Without the Spirit of Jesus to live within us we cannot conceive anything but selfishness. As the selfishness grows we become pregnant with trouble and we can only give birth to trouble, lies, deception etc. The sinful nature can only give birth to sinful things. All the laws that we have in America are there to try to curb and control this sinful nature. We have given birth to stealing so hence the laws against it. We have giving birth to drunkenness so again hence the laws against it.

Life in these United States will not get better until the births get better. Pray that we will see an increase in the birth rate of people being ‘Born Again’. How can you tell if a new birth has occurred? You will see the transformation. The fruit will be the fruit of the Holy Spirit. If you do not see that kind of fruit then there has been no transformation. No, one will not be mature overnight and not sin again but there will begin to be a change. This change does not come by obeying a set of rules or joining a church it only comes by yielding ones life to the inner working of the Holy Spirit. And that comes by believing in Jesus as your savior.

John 3:3–8 (NLT) — 3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” 4 “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” 5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”

John 3:16 (NLT) — 16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Matthew 7:15–20 (NLT) — 15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

Luke 19:8–10 (NLT) — 8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” 9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
